After I saw the weather report for rain I threw it out there to see if anyone was keen for a ride for Monday. I was meant to go to work but was overdue an RDO and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to go for a wet ride in January. JNR was in and then Scratch made three which was plenty for a Monday. It rained during the drive out there and kept raining at a steady pace for most of the ride.
So we all put our jackets on and hit the usual tight section of single trax to warm up, then got into some more flowing tracks. I was the designated Kangaroo decoy out front and JNR and Scratch were tucked safely behind at #2 and Sweep. After about 20klm we took a break and I noticed my Tool bag which used to be mounted on my rear fender was missing. A Dodgy install was the prime suspect and we decided to alter our planned route to repeat the 20klm section we had just done at the end of the ride to see if we could get lucky and find it.

The conditions were awesome with puddles and water flowing down most tracks, I had a brand new MX51 rear tire which provided plenty of grip out back but still had the racing slick on the front which made it a bit skatey in places. JNR and Scratch stuck with using goggles I decided not to so I could actually see where I was going and avoid the multitudes of kangaroos jumping onto the track. There was no major offs or dramas and during the rest breaks JNR kept us entertained with his stories of his Finke adventures.

We did about another 40klms then started backtracking to the area where I lost my tool bag. Then with eyes keenly scanning the track for the bag we repeated the final leg. I got to the finish empty handed and realized there was nobody behind me, after a bit of a wait the rest turned up with JNR saying how did you miss this it was right in the middle of the track!!

So good work by JNR and he more than deserves ROTD for the find.

Scratch had to take off but JNR and I headed into Sawyers Tavern for a beer only to find a “closed until further notice” sign on the door. So it was off to the Parkerville for a couple of beers, a bowl of chips and a chat. All in all a good day out and as JNR said work is overated
