Ravy Pony Xpress
Myself, Marytn and SHotter ( Steve) headed down last Friday to Ravensthorpe to ride the pony Xpress . Got there around 8.00pm and set up camp and then had a bit of a chat and a beer around the fire with some of the other riders that where already there.
Did notice on the way down that there was a bit of water on the side of the road which means they have had a bit of rain down that way. Well after the riders meet on the Saturday morning we set off for a sighting lap to find out that yes, I was right and it was a struggle to keep the bike upright as the tracks where very slippery and the tyres filled up quickly with mud. They were going to make everyone do a lap of the Motocross track, but it was so damn slippery and lots of riders struggled and fell over that they cut that bit out. I thought Steve might have put his bike back on the trailer as this was his first time at doing something like this, and after completing the sighting lap it didn't look like it was going to be much fun.
After the first lap, things started to get fun with slippery mud being turned into awesome tacky dirt. Everyone was starting to enjoy themselves but that didn't last too long with a couple of decent showers and the track started to turn again. By the time I got to do my last lap, the track was pretty slick and a couple of close calls with nearly hitting trees it was a very steady pace back plus getting a flat tyre didn't help things.
While some of us struggled in the conditions, it certainly didn't slow down some of the young fast dudes. The number 1 state rider at the moment turned up. He set ridiculous fast times. And Darin, you will be happy to know that he was riding a Beta 480. Marytn did well and got the best time out of the three of us and considering this was Steve's first crack at a pony express and the trying conditions he did well and I'm sure he will be back again.
The rain spoilt things for the burn-out cars but each time they managed to dry out the pad and for the cars to do their thing. The burn-out boys sure know how to party with the last skid being about 3.00am in the morning and I think they finished drinking about 4.00am. Needless to say not much of us got much sleep that night.
The Ravy Enduro Club put in a big effort to hold a great event. While the rain put a dampener on things it certainly didn't stop it from being a great weekend away and I always enjoy the riding down that way. Cheers to Marytn and Steve for tagging along.
