SOTD - Darins Phone

Riders – MickKal, Darin, Colin

I decided to join fellow Crusties Darin and Colin on the Rally Event ride on the PAR group. First step was to make a roll chart map from a lunchbox for navigation like the rally guys do, see photo, Darin wisely chose to mount his phone on the handlebars and just use a PDF of the route which seemed to work well. I was super organised on Friday night, Bike on the ute, gear packed, clothes ready for the morning so I could sneek out unnoticed but unfortunately I forgot to set the alarm. Slept in until 6:45 and then flew around like a headless chook and managed to just make it for the last position of the staggered start for the Rally which started at 8:00. Got lost a couple of times on the first half but made it to the sausage sizzle half way point no problem, Then we took off on the second half and Darin and myself as the mild mannered ambassadors of the Crustys did not overtake anyone, and if we did it was done under a cloak of dust so as no taint would be cast on the the honourable name of the Crustys, unlike some others who shall remain nameless (Hooters, Junior). In the second half I found that the best way to navigate was to follow Darins dust. This plan worked fine until Darin lost his phone on the track somewhere. We managed to find it but not before a dozen bikes had used it for traction and inflicted some cosmetic damage. We both made it to the end unscathed and checked in and had a chat with the group and then went to our nearby trailer point to load up. Thanks to Darin who supplied some beers to wash down the dust. Good fun day out.
