Ride in Reverse ADV ride

Riders – JNR, Slates and MickKal
SOTD – Slates

JNR and I were tossing around a few options for Saturdays ride when he said he had enjoyed Tommy’s previous ride so much that he would like to do it again but in the reverse direction. All good, JNR was Pack leader, Slates in the middle and I was sweep. I got the Gpx off JNR using the wireless transfer which was a first for me, transfer was a bit slow, but it worked great. We got a bit of rain and the first section from Sawyers to Jarradale section was in el primo condition and I thought it was the best part of the ride, we got there early and so had to wait on their doorstep for them to open so we could have a beer and a steak sandwich, but it was definitely worth it, great food, cold beer. Down side was that with a full belly we still had about 300klms to go.. The ride turned out to be a cracker and Tommy in his absence put on a clinic of how to build a great Adv ride…
Lots of flowing tracks – This is the meat in the sandwich of a good adv ride
Less than 50 whoops for the entire ride
A Bitumen section – A necessary evil to gain access to a pub lunch
A few long Gravel sections – enjoyable just to chill out on between the bumpy bits
A nice slab of slippery rock – for the re-enactment photo shoot
Some single track- Just to remind us how bad a bike handles with 20l of fuel onboard
A bit of open farmland cruising – To check out the crops
Start and finish at the same spot – So softcore adv riders can trailer their bikes, perfect.
I did witness slates fall off 3 times so he probably deserves SOTD, first nomination for Slates so now he is full-fledged Crusty, also JNR may have briefly dismounted for a couple of seconds but he picked his bike back up so quickly that I wasn’t sure if it actually happened? All up the ride was around 340klms, there was dust in the middle of the ride, but it got better again the closer we came to sawyers. JNR did a faultless job of leading and we all enjoyed having a beer and chat at Sawyers pub at the end.
Mickkal
