Meeting to discuss Off Road Areas at the Pines.
Report by Pretz.
OK - there have been some official rides called that didn't actually involve riding. But this is probably the first official CQ ride that involved neither riding nor drinking beer! The event was the Crusty's support of the Public Meetings into the future development planning for the Pinjar and Gnangara Off Road Vehicle areas. The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) commissioned the management plans following the recommendations in the State Trail Bike Strategy. This was an opportunity for riders to have their say and there were Crusty's a-plenty at both meetings. The first stop was Pinjar where the early risers met - all except Pommy Pete who had trailered his brand new Husky the 65ks from Darlington to the OVT only to realise he had left the keys behind! From there the group variously drove or rode down to Gnangara for the second session of the day. This one drew an even bigger crowd, many of whom were the Gnangara locals. The Crusty ranks were swelled by Colin, Roley, Pounce, Col Mc, Pat and others (sorry - didn't do a proper head-count). Various suggestions about the future of the area were made, including one to turn the place into a resort complete with clubhouse and spa. As a step along the path to being able to provide better areas for us all to take our kids and families the day was successful and more evidence of our improving dialogue with DEC. Thanks to everyone who came along and provided valuable input. |
