Ride report by Col.
11 riders turned out for a quick blast up through the inland trails, across over to Wedge and back. When we arrived at the off road car park the wind was howling at a rate of knots with a good sand blasting included. Adrian was walking around with his goggles on protecting his eyes looking like a reject from a Mad Max movie.

I held the normal riders meeting warning everyone about the dangers of the ride including the roo problem with no idea what was install for me. Col Mac lead us out of Lano with Peter looking after the sweep position. Tommy had never ridden lano and Carlo was a bit apprehensive on the new WR. Not long after leaving the main trail and heading into the single lane boggy dunes, Carlo came down in front of Peter over the top of a soft drop off. Little did he know that was not going to be good enough for the SOTD award.

The boys waited some time for a regroup however it wasn't long before we were on our way again with the speed increasing through those lovely flowing hard packed inland trails. I was riding half way back in the pack enjoying a reasonable paced ride when a small roo decided to cross in front of me. It was one of those trails where the banks are a meter or so above the trail and when the little bugger jumped he was at head height when I hit him head on with my helmet. Mackley who was right behind me said I simply somersaulted off the back of the bike in one motion landing on the ground and rolling to a stop.

Fortunately we had Allen with us who is a paramedic and gave me the once over. He said I didn't look to bad and a 4 x4 trip back to the car would be fine. Gazza and Lucky Pete took off to get the 4 x4 and perform the rescue. As I lay on the ground for the next hour waiting I was attacked by ticks that were coming out of the ground like a sci-fi movie. Pete and the others were kept busy keeping cold towels on my swollen eye and removing the ticks that were trying to carry me away.

I still managed the compulsory visit to the pie shop and then home for a shower and de-tick by Julie before the 7 hour visit to the emergency ward. After a couple of xrays and CT scans my sore neck was given the clearance however the cheek bone suffered a break which has resulted in a collapsed eye socket. I am now looking forward to an operation involving the removal of the eye and some reconstruction of the socket.

I nominated myself for the SOTD award today!!! I figure I just snuck in under Carlo's off. Thanks to everyone who looked after me and passed on their best wishes. It's fantastic to ride with a bunch of fellows you can rely on so much.
