H’s “Suck & See Tour”
Report by Roley

H called the ride along the lines of his recent “Smell the Flowers Tour” starting in Lano and lets see what new tracks we can find while he continues to learn more on how to navigate with a GPS – more on his GPS skills later! H also brought his usual three litres of fuel in his backpack and was looking very dapper in his new Fox jersey, pants & gloves (thanks to the USA exchange rate)! Peter was there as usual as the Sweep and to give H GPS tips. Mackley turned up with his KTM fitted with his long range fuel tank just in case it was going to be a long one. He need not have bothered given there were three DRZillas tankers – mine, DRZAllan and of course Fueltanker Allen with his long-range fuel tank.

We headed off at a good pace through the first gate on the Wedge track and then immediately right passing the usual inland tracks and hitting some new trails. It was about here that Peter and I at the back of the pack began sucking the big dust plumes kicked up by the others on the gas – there was a hint of rain but it never came even though we did pray to the Enduro Gods!

Going down a new track to my surprise I came upon DRZAllan picking up H’s bike and looking for a tree as a bike stand! H was just sitting on his butt facing me looking a little dazed. As the rest of the boys pulled up the story emerged of how H was trying to read his GPS on the move when the back wheel kicked out without warning and the bike went into a couple of endos and threw him off. DRZAllan used his medico skills to assess H’s condition. Fortunately a part from a lump on his forehead and a saw rib or two H seemed OK. Once H got his breath back he resumed the Lead and head off onto the Cataby tracks but it did earn him SOTD!

Well we got to end of the worse of the doggy, dusty sandy tracks which left me thinking this does suck and were only kms from Cataby. I was now thinking of a nice cold drink at the roadhouse. However, at this re-group it became obvious there was either something wrong with H (LOL) or his GPS as he pointing in the completely wrong direction to the coast. Mackley and Peter worked it out that it must have been H’s GPS some how re-programmed itself after the endo. So the next I know we are heading back towards the coast along more doggy, dusty sandy tracks – without my cold drink? Bummer!

Once we hit the main Lano-Wedge track we headed straight back to Lano. Mind you the traffic was reasonably busy and it made you stay very alert with a few DHs on quads and MXers riding like they were the only road users, not to mention the steady stream of 4WDs heading to Wedge.

Back at the carpark we had a friendly chat with the Shire of Gingin Ranger. We were asked politely not to park in the first parking area as this are is now out of bounds to all bikers but not the Big-foot Bus!

H reported that he had switched over the reserve on the way in so it seems even after his little stack it did not slow him down much with us covering just on a 100 kms and he did transfer 3 litres into his very thirsty WR!

Once packed up we all headed for the usual pie at the bakery – one of the highlights of a Lano ride. It never ceases to amaze me how the ride is different for each of us, with everyone recounting their experiences. There was talk of roos, emus, snakes and lizards – I never saw any of them, was I on the same ride? May be it was because I was sucking and seeing the dust! LOL But it sure bets mowing the lawn! Great ride boys and well Lead H – I think!

See some of you at the CQ Xmas gathering at Wrex’s next week but remember if you are not on the Event’s page attendance list you will miss out on the Annual Awards and the good old Aussie sledging that goes with it. So make sure Wrex knows you are coming particularly for catering requirements.

Used rim for sale. One careful owner. Nice one H!

The H Version

The ‘Suck it & see Tour’ headed off in the right direction, Fueltanker Allen was setting a good pace with some great riding, he made light work of the boggy sand, riding the DRZ with ease through these sections, even with the extra fuel on board. He had the bike dialled in well.

DRZ Allan was having great fun riding the slightly lighter version of the DRZ (Not much Lighter), every time we stopped he was beaming with a big smile having enjoyed whatever section we rode on (that’s what it’s all about). Thanks for making sure I was ok after my venture over the bars..............Bit of a heavy impact, even managed to dent the fuel cans in the back pack (While full). Ribs are still a bit sore, (thanks to Pounce who keeps trying to make me LAFF ..................Not Funny!!).

Mackley rode well all day and only used half a tank of fuel, now that’s a bike you want with you when you’re exploring – LOL. There was a fast section of track which had really good traction and was smooth, which weaved around then it straightened out for an even faster section, half way along there were several gotcha rocks sticking out of the ground, the next rider alone was Fueltanker Allen, I asked him to stop to warn the others of the pending danger. Once Mackley had got through this section it was full on again only for him to discover that the track dropped off with a bit of dip to the right which he didn’t quite make it all the way round but recovered well after a little detour – LOL

Roley and Pete rode well all day taking everything in their stride, after ending up on a bit more boggy sand again I was hoping that Pete’s Hammy was holding up ok.

We managed to find some really good tracks but there was a bit of boggy sh#t in between, with a little bit more effort we’ll be able to link the good sections together without the other sh#t getting in the way.

Thanks to all who turn up, had a good LAFF – Cheers

H
