1st ride for the year was on some of the hallowed turf of the original Crusty boys. 5 turned up Jacko, Kung Fu Panda, H, Walker and I. The OVT was the starting point and within 100m the sandy whoops started, I was laughing and taking it cautiously on the new bike while in the back of my mind I swear I could hear KFP swearing in his native tongue.

1st little regroup and yep the swearing was flowing in true style. Off into the MXers heaven and towards the beach. How does the WR handle sand climbs, well lets find out. 50m long powdery sand dunes climb to find out. Straight up and over with ease, Walker straight behind on the two fiddy and KFP about 5m short. Well KFP found out after several failed attempts to keep forward progress that you can't. Jacko and H were also stuck behind him as there was no where to pass. 2nd attempt no problems.

Into the Crusty Quinns heartland with many more dune climbs and yes sandy whoops. Views of the ocean were awesome with glass like conditions and a nice easterly breeze to help cool off a little. A few slow points with Mummy roo followed by baby roo crossing the track with plenty of warning. Quickly up to Yanchep via the blacktop and a fang around the H20 tanks. A quick breather and fuel top up at my work and off again.

This is where Google earth came in handy with a jaunt from Yanchep to Two rocks via some new tracks. KFP had a small off and was buggered. His fitness has suffered with his extended long lay off. It'll come back mate. At the start of a long fence line section I sent Walker ahead and watched him chase and Emu on the other side of the fence. At the end of this section a group decision was made to head east and take some firmer trails home.

Into the pines we went, skirting them and the bush when I was topping out in 4th gear I saw some movement 30m ahead in the shade of the pines. Locking up the back wheel and as hard as I could on the front without burying it a goat gets to its feet. Yep a bloody big goat, horns and all. It was lying in the shadow and was the same coloring as the sand. If it hadn't moved I don't reckon I would have saw it.

Back on some familiar trails Mick 450 had showed me and nearing home we headed. Jacko knew of some tracks as a short cut home and he took the lead. A 6 pack of lights was purchased and thoroughly enjoyed by one and all. Thanks H for sweeping and keeping his eyes off his GPS :-)
