Bill called a ride midweek hes got a new steering damper and as always its been too long between drinks. Its Bills backyard and weve done a couple of scouting missions to suss out some trails, heaps up there....its nice jarrah forrest with good ole ball bearings for ground. It makes a change to the coastal stuff and you have to be on your game...the bush is nice up there, but bloody dry....I keep saying it but its incredible this weather. If wed listened to wise ol Colin a few years ago wed have a nice big canal the length of the state....irrigate the whole f*n south west...dreamin. Imagine this stuff after a week of rain... grip, wet and soaking leaf litter, loamy soils, bangin bars and on the tail of your mates...thats what its all about...No dramas...a ride is a ride, and a great one we had.

Its a good turn out...Toddys got his new 530. Its 25kgs lighter than the 625...alot easier than hitting the gym. Harv reckons hes been testing the clickers in every possible combination and rattling on about the new kato to anyone wholl listen. Ahh new bikes are good. Looks a treat paired up with Rothys on the ute. Talking with Chris (Chris de Berg) and Harvs I get this who the f is toddy I learn he has a few aliass. Chris de Berg has a psycho weapon 530 bored out to 570, with skulls on it. Ross and Jacko are already at the spot and its a nice cool morning. Billybob has a mate Fabs whos a local and he rocks up on his DRZ so I know itll be a good day out.

The old man rocks up on the SV1000, mate Ive been telling ya, if you want to ride go out and get a bloody chook chaser. We hoon off west along the sandy flats...dust f*** me its thick no wind to blow it away... bloody nice morning though. Not to worry it sharpens the skills. Not a single one of us can lay off the throttle, were not wired that way.
A few approaches here...choose one and youll be right.
1. Give it the berries and stay on the heels on the bloke in front....the dust doesnt have a chance to billow up. Too bad for the bloke behind you hell be right.
2. If you can manage to back off a bit, do so. Youll be blind on occasion here but watch the head of the rider in front...when it bops up and down violently hes hit something...change lines.
3. Pull over, smell the roses for a minute and then proceed.....this one is hard to do.
Poor Ross has a flat a couple of kays in, he calls it a day and nurses the yami home...and the pubs not even open... go home mow the lawn for him this time. Are we still awarding the HOG award? Rosss got it today.
Also if you want to be a show pony in front of the corner man, make sure you can see tree stumps. I see Toddy at a bit of an intersection and give it some herbs on a litter riser....its pretty thick...get the front up and as I put it down a small stump suddenly springs from the earth right between the two wheels. As the back hits, the combined down and forward momentum throws the back up...when the rear is overtaking the front a couple of meters off the ground then you know you have a problem. Good armour and neckbrace is an absolute must for those who crash. Not a happy camper for awhile. So SOTD for me they reckon.

We stop at Dwellingup for a bit of a rest turns out Toddys new 530 is ex Australian Safari...the starter motor is playing up, it was cheap for a reason Toddy... the old girl 625 was a good looker, loving and dependable.......a marriage made in heaven....greener grass burns all of us fellas. Shell be right munsy.

We get into the beautiful rocky, hilly country thats nice down there. Get to the first hill climb. Still in sandy dune mode and attack too fast...bounce around like a frog in a sock...stare too long at a rut....and.... yep..... straight into it...and bounce off a tree root. Off again wtf. Skull drag the kato 180 and roll down. Billbob says nothing... just shakes his head. All the boys have a crack...I find some shade at this point.

Rothy creeps down slow but looses the front end...hes off, bugger... not really a contender to take away SOTD, but proceeds to really improve his chances. Hes struggling in a rut on the decline and drops her....you wouldnt read about it....the bar end comes down square and clean on Rothys big toe. Were all the way down the bottom.....we hear a crack....the radiator is gone....Rothy gets down.. we think whats he takin his boot off for? Yep a smashed tomato for a big toe, must have hurt. He cant even get a bandage on it, were orderin him around so as to get the right light for a photo. Hes got SOTD now...not so.... the bloody smashed toe is still second.

We come across some blokes on a Yami and a DRZ and the big girl XR650. While Rothy is patching himself up we have a yarn...they tag on for a while...more the merrier. We arrive back at Dwellingup...pubs not open yet...prob a good thing...could settle in about now ...warm day, cold beer and they do a good lunch there.

Fabs knows an alternate route back down the hill....so he leads now. This bloke shows us how to ride a DRZ or any bike for that matter. He jumps railway lines like hes on a trials bike and charges up gnarly rocky hills like its bitumen. We do some good single trail nicely bermed up in some bits. Were up about 350m nice view from up there. Jacko likes this type of stuff...the DRZ plugs away truly. Will have to track back those parts again for sure. Cheers Fabs.

Were back on the flat black stuff now and a thirst quencher is on the mind. A fang back on some sand...all good here...Toddy opens up the 530... screams past. And back at the cars...bit bruised and battered...Harv supplies some refreshments to sort that out. Good vibe down at the ravo.....its been a good one. ROTD to Billybob...first call and lead, good work in usual flat out fashion. Cheers fellas cant wait for it to rain. Everything hurts today.
