Jacko's Report

heading up to Hyden on Friday it was raining all the way and kept raining into the night so there were lots of puddles and large bog holes. After meeting Lex at wave rock he told us the road out to the track was closed at 3.30 that day. Lex went off to investigate while the rest of us settled into the shack.the accommodation at the resort was very good and large enough for eight of us.on his return the news is all good and we can get to the track ok
Saturday morning we head off early to a farm where we leave the cars and load up the support cars, Mals rodeo and my jackeroo with trailer and head off for the track.
the track is very winding with lots of puddles and wet hard sand just perfect for riding. other parts of the track are red dirt with large slippery bog holes, the worst ones have detour tracks around them.
we got to the first camp a bit late and got the fire cranking while the others arrived on dark. it was a nice campsite at Victoria rock with a fireplace and table and benches.
after breakfast were off again on miles of great trails and then on the dirt road to Coolgardie for some fuel and food, then north to mt burgess for an early camp and time to do the hill climbs and explore the area. Fred and Mal got the camp oven out and cooked up a feast on the coals.
Sunday morning we topped up at coolgardie and headed off to burra rock where the poo incident occurred. Lots of laughing after that with carl oops i mean john becoming the but of hundreds of poo jokes. guys would just burst out laughing for no apparent reason.i guess you had to be there.
then more nice tracks to cave hill for lunch and time for some exploring.the woodlines track was next. it follows an old railway for about 50ks then on to the best riding track ever. this one was also about 50ks of tight twisting turning track but flat with no berms but very grippy hard damp sand perfect for power sliding.then on to our last camp at lake johnstone. Lots of laughs and poo jokes that night.
day four we do the banker-mount day track. it was very fast and dead straight for about 50ks and crosses the Holland track where we turned off to head back.at a regroup we get word from Dennis that rob (muddler) has fallen and damaged the big BMW 650. while repairs were going on i notice the trailer axle is crooked.the centre bolt through the spring had sheared off.by the time i fixed it the bike was going again so we took a short cut back on the road.
what an awesome trip it was, 900ks over four days.great guys, great camps, lots of laughs, beautiful country, it doesn't get any better than that.

DRZ Dennis's Holland track write up -

An excellent 4 days allround, I haven't had as many laughs for a long time, starting with Lex's confident statements of "Only 20 km to go", (try 80km+). To support driver "John" (not his real name), as the sun was setting to pull out a box (unopened) with a tent the size of the Taj- Mahal, and then proclaim that he hadn't put up the tent before. All that can be said is the finished attempt beared little resemblance to the picture on the box. But as we where to find out "John" was just warming up for a finale, that I doubt will be topped in the history of Crusty Quinns

But let's not get too far ahead and forget 'Mad Max' Mal who was driving the other support vehicle, who if he hadn't had to wait for Carl with the Trailer, he would have been leading the ride in his Rodeo. His one downfall was excessive speed when it came to water crossings, needless to say, despite Fred telling him to slowdown, in a forceful manner, there came a big column of steam and a very loud backfire and then silence. Despite dire predictions of catastrophic engine failure, a little CRC and he was on the road again, this however did little to slow the forward momentum of his Rodeo for the rest of the ride.

If you are of a sensitive nature, please stop here as we are returning to support driver 2, "John", and a bizarre occurrence on the Holland Track Trip. Now "John" as he was following the bikes and Mal, was suddenly overtaken by the urge to do number two's, now picture this before we proceed, that we are on a well established gravel road to a popular tourist destination. You are probably thinking no worries, I will exit the vehicle, wonder into the bush to a discreet location, dig a little hole, mission accomplished. Not "John", he swings off the front seat, pulls down his trousers, grabs the sill panel with one hand and the door with other, squats down, snaps off a log, tear's of the required amount of toilet roll, does what needs to be done and drops this on top of the previous deposit. Now this deposit is proudly sitting with not so white banners flapping in the wind, not very far from the centre of the road, when just as he pulls up his trousers, a car load of tourist pull near "John" and exhibit A, to see if he was okay. "John" now find himself in predicament of his own making, and is trying to position himself in between exhibit A and the tourists, was he successful, we think not. The car load of tourists where seen driving briskly down the road and "John" was left to suffer around the campfire that night as we gently tried to comfort and support him in his hour of need

SOTD Post-script
Stack of the week on the Holland track on the last day goes to Muddler for crashing into a tree and damaging his BMW ( at least 2grand we recon) in the last few hours of the ride...

Abandoned giant holes everywhere so why not ride down one?
