Chat on the Messageboard was suggesting a quick early morning heart starter in the Lakes area.

Wayno:

Mick530 I'm up for a quick 100k Sat morning blast. Anyone else interested in a Sat ride with early-ish finish.
Don't care where.

Rob:
I'm up for a ride tomorrow, dont mind where either. If there's only a few of us maybe the lakes and explore that new single track we found? I know my way a little out there but not that great but getting better with the GPS too.

Rob:

Ok 7:30 leaving the Lakes, see you guys in the morning.

A select group of skilled riders turned up to hone their skills. Oh and Pounce was there too! Welcome back Pounce.

Rob took the lead with Pounce sweeping, as he was going to take it easy..

Rob must be one of the smoothest riders in the Crusties. He would ride each section like he was on rails, and then wait for us to catch up.

At times the lead consulted with the sweep and of we went again.

I am constantly amazed how some Crusties can find their way around areas like this. A million square Kms of bush and with a quick chat and a wave of an arm in the general direction another brilliant single track is found.

The track started with some black mud. Not a lot of mud in my usual riding area. Mick530 regards this stuff as something that should be thrown 100m into the air to fall like crappy rain on the following riders. Mick is fast and has lots of fun in smelly stinking mud digging trenches for unsuspecting old blokes.

There seems to be a time of the year when the tracks are at their best. That snotty, impassable, impossible, rocky hill climb becomes just a minor obstacle that is not even worth getting the camera out.

Somewhere in the bush, while linking up some single track Rob found a creek crossing. A few times during the day Hooters name was mentioned. Hooters would just ride through this flat tack, ect. Always followed by some remark about his skill on a bike.

Mick found a unique way through crock-infested swamp in third, pinned to the rev limiter. You could see the roost for Perth but no Mick.

Wayno had had enough of swimming in freezing water to retrieve bikes and crossed with a little more caution. I followed Wayno for much of the ride and watched him skilfully select lines through some of the best tracks I have ridden. He looks way more at home on the new KTM.

Pounce seemed to be getting back in the groove quickly as every time I turned around I could see a flash of yellow. I couldnt get my camera out before he was sitting there waiting for me to move. He appeared at the top of every hill climb and at the end of every mud holeskill.

Wayno had suggested a quick morning blast on the message board but was the first to suggest a final loop to what was a great days ride.

Thanks lads for and outstanding 84.3kms. Id ride that track any weekend. FT Al
