There had been a few midweek rides over the last few weeks with all the FIFO workers on their days off and as I have been busy at weekends I thought Ill have some of that. Wayno and Rob had posted about a possible ride this week so I worked a few extra hours early in the week and scored a day off for it so a ride was called for Thursday. Wayno, Rob and I met up at the Rock Inn and headed off to the parking spot but some how we managed to lose Rob on the Brookton Hwy ? and had to go back to find him this was the only hitch of the day.
Its been 6 months from my last ride at Metros so I wasnt too sure if I would remember the tracks but Wayno said he knew the tracks if we got to the Bannister end so I was happy with that and away we went. There was a bit of water and mud at the start then it dried out until we got to a big puddle I went in first and found the deep part the bike stalled and I had to lift the backend out with my new Tugger strap at least I know it works the other two find the easy way through. On to single track for a while and I miss a turn off and keep on going we do a few extra Ks on this track but eventually end up at were I was heading for anyway so all is good. Soon we are at a clearing that Wayno recognizes and he takes over lead and takes us along some good tracks that lead us directly to the Road House for a feed and fuel.
Rob tells us he cant get his mojo going today and is only riding at 65% so before we head of again he has a Redbull drink all I can think is great his 65% is already a lot more than my 100% and now he is going to be pushing me even harder (panic). The first part of the ride home is great although with a full belly any whoops are always a bit harder. We come to the end of one track that we came to on the way down from the left so we decide to head of to the right and this leads us to a bit of a rocky hill up I go with Rob close behind me and we see Wayno ride straight on Rob turns round to get him but before he can go down Wayno is back (I think Rob was disappointed as he was probably wanting to race off after him for some fun). The next regroup is back at the half way point and we play on a few hills then go looking for more. We find a good looking spot with hills and gullies and take a note for future exploring. Heading back to the cars we come across the big puddle and I make the same mistake and end up in the deep end again after this its a short blast back to the cars.
130Ks no dramas and good company beats work any day of the week.
