Toddy’s Woky Weekender

I’ve heard about Munnsy/Harve/Skullman/Rothy’s overnighter at Woky and this one will not be missed. It turned out to be a ball, plenty of mud action, steep gnarly hills, snotty, rocky and slippery, that just keep on going. No time to have a spell its flat out, land with the gas on, or you’ll get stopped and that means a lot of drama, so keep it pinned over the erosion mounds and try hit the right line and hang on.

It’s a mixed bag at every turn, the storms left a huge amount of carnage, trees down everywhere so everyone got some practice at log hops and heaps of heavy brake sideways action to stop and re-route around. This caused some head scratching at times as to where to go… so that was heaps of fun up and down banks, the kato was a bushwacker. Tommy is a thinker and well prepared….he rips out a fold out saw that makes short work of a tree, there’s some farmers out doing the same thing but with chainsaws.

Great to see TTRDave back with a WR450 and he’s having a ball, the WR keeps the rear on the ground much better and WRRob shows us how its done on a Yam…keeps the energy up all day (for two days) and generally kills it while we watch. Good to see. Ash blitzes a steep gnarly hill on the stroker standing up the whole way up then smashes the piney down hill to get back to us.

Cleanman dirty ups his band new 300 kato much to Mikes liking in sweep with the GoPro on. I haven’t watched it yet but a big stick had a joust with CM in a big bog hole filled with water. The log came off second best but the kato had a radiator wound, lucky though not to loose the fluid. Ole Mick has some electrical dramas day 1 and Harves pulls out a 250kg toe line…should be right its doubled over. Get back for an early lunch and then hoon off…Mick and Tommy find the fault and she’s all good while we’re out for the arvo day 1. Bloody acid gloves turns up when you need him so they end up going off for ride in the hope of 3 ride points for the trip.

We get back to camp day 1 somehow in one piece so it’s a well-earned beer and trade stories and set up. Ralph empties the trailer so it’s up the road to find wood. I chuck in some small stuff, but Harves is eagle-eyeing stumps like massive malley roots. He’s on the money it turns out…awesome fire that burns all night. Troy turns up….he’s done the rounds finding us but he’s made it and probably took the hilux up some hills that’d put the 450 to shame. Toddy has a yarn, stars are out, this is what it’s all about, can’t really beat this. Went to bed with a couple of tonne of malley root, Troy’s the sentry and keeps the fire stoked, just right for the snags for breaky.

Day 2 is more of the same but with pine forest. Passed plum creek and gave the roof rack track a run. Awesome single trail and the trees over make it trail riding at its best. Rob leads us through some fast washed out powerline sections and that gets the senses switched back on. Owe Rob a beer…retrieves my bashplate after coming down flat and heavy.

The busted rib and nuts crossing will be one we go to again. We’re heading down hill through heavy single trail and come across the creek, doesn’t seem too bad but its got a drop off with a square edge going out the other side. A quagmire is what toddy’ll call it. Young micks on the old man’s 350 so he gives it a crack…lifts the front and gets into it and pops out all good. Then its rothy who goes the same way but cracks the plums on the tank and he’s doubled over for a good while but that’s funny. Skullman’s crack is not so funny and does some damage to the ribs. Young Mick and Harves escort the wounded soldier back, bit worried for Skullman but thankfully when we get back the trailer is gone, must not have been a grade 1 emergency. Get well tough effort to carry on.

Thanks most to Toddy, and Harves, Skullman and Rothy for putting on a weekend to remember and also to Mike who swept all weekend and didn’t loose the GoPro through all the carnage. Back to the cars about 3, beers and motorcross at the Drakesbrook, visited Billybob for a beer, went to the carwash, got home had a soak, missus was happy to see me.....and slept like a log. If I’ve forgotten anything hilarious it’s the rums fault. Awesome weekend.

Jeffro.
