The sand was wet and the call was put out for a midweek ride. It looked like Acid Gloves Eddy was going for a ride but even he had to work and posted his best wishes for those riding while he was working.
Fortunately CRF Jason and CR Jason came to the rescue. It’s amazing what bike riders will do to help out a Crusty.
8.00 am at the OVT saw the small gathering with large enthusiasm. One yellow bike and two red bikes. Not an orange or blue bike to be seen. This was going to be a ride without too many stops.
Then I noticed something was unusual about Jason2’s bike. Some how he had grafted a two stroke exhaust to the Honda. Not only that, the rest of the motor looked a little dodgy, but it sure did move.

We headed South then East into the sand tracks. The moisture was holding the sand together just perfectly. Two more days and these tracks will be dry again.

While spending my time trying to shake off the two red machines I worked out the only way to stay in front was to run the buggers out of fuel….which I did. $20 per litre is not much to ask for premium unleaded these days. Surely.

After a refuel and a much needed rest (for me) we hit the tracks North.

Plan one had worked. Now for plan two. Find the snottiest hill I could and encourage the youngsters to ride up it.

Jason 1 was harder to mislead so I quietly sprayed some oil over his motor and a little on the fork seals to encourage him to slow down. 40 kms later he took the hint. Unfortunately the usually smiling Jason was a little upset that he couldn’t complete the ridge ride and the whoops towards home. I would have been wrapped to have such a good excuse.
Jason 1 took the backtop back to the OVT.
The plan had backfired and I would have to stay with Jason 2 through the whoops.
“Go fast and hard” is the way to do the sand whoops. I’m told.
“Get stuffed”, you get to ride bikes when your part 50 by being smart, not fast.
I felt every whoop and still feel them two days later.
We returned to find Jason 1 eating Buffalo Wings and drinking a beer. He didn’t look like he was suffering.

An awesome ride Jason’s. Thanks for the education.
