3.75 bikes turned up for Mick450s return ride.
Two Teneres, one DR and three quarters of a DRZ 400.
For some reason Ash had worn his tyres down to slicks made the suspension rock solid and called it a motard. Great on the road and fun to watch on the slick orange clay roads out New Norcia way.
The start at Yanchep Servo was nice and local but within a few kms we found Micks idea of a casual recovery ride was going to be fun.
Some limestone and sandy tracks on the way north got the pulse racing a few times but not as much as Ashes using most of the track to make the motard turn. Awesome to follow……no roost, no trenches, just nice clean rolled track.
We worked our way north following Moore River. Farmers have fenced off most places and getting close to the river is a challenge. The best spot, with very pleasant views and excellent camping was found. The local farmers are very friendly and willing to come and discuss camping site selections. The local we talked too even brought a ute load of carrots and attitude to match.
Heading along the river became more adventurous and muddy until we interrupted a couple had travelled from Lano to find some peace and quiet. Suckers!
From the river we headed towards New Norcia along some great orange clay roads. The Tenere’s and Dr sat comfortably on the tracks and thanked the gods we had knobs on our tyres.
Within 1km of a fuel station Ashs DRZ drank it’s last sip of unleaded. 180 odd ks from a standard tank is pretty good.
The lunch at New Norcia pub was even better.
Mick and Ross checked the good book for a way home and selected the clay roads towards Toddyay.
We pulled up so Ross could put his plastic pants over his dryrides and Mick found more bull than he could handle. See photos.
I have a feeling the selection was made without Ashs feelings about traction being taken into account and more about the quality of pubs en route.
We briefly discussed adding some tek screws to the DRZs tyres.
We had to stop for to avoid some rain right outside a pub, lucky or what?
The shower passed and we headed for the coast.
Around 400kms went by very quickly with some very scenic country covered. A great ride with excellent company.
Thanks.
