Stack of the day Ash
It had rained for almost 2 weeks prior to the camp out and some people were asking if it was still on well why wouldn’t it be rain keeps the dust away and makes MUD.
At the riders meeting it was explained that I (Tommy) would be leading and Jacko Rothy and Wayno would take turns at sweep duties so when you are in the pack and the chance arises then its ok to fill each other in but never pass the lead rider as this is a big no no on a Crusty ride but the main reason was as I was leading I thought that this would save me from getting filled in ha ha.
We tried a new track at about 5ks in but it was more overgrown than I had planned for and some of the bikes started to boil over so when we got to a more open track it was time to give the bikes a blast and cool them down this is when Ash had a bit of a spill and broke his gear lever. So a regroup some bush maintenance a new gear lever supplied by Todd and we are on our way again.
With all the rain we have had some of the usual tracks have taken on a new look with water everywhere lots of puddles and bog holes in places that I haven’t seen in years slippery red clay to catch you out the branches hanging over the tracks were dripping wet and soaked you as you push through them. On to a normally fast single trail but not today it was flooded and this slowed us up a bit and at the next regroup everyone had been filled in by someone although most blamed Gareth. They all though I was joking when I said the next part was normally the muddy part well about 45 minutes later when we stopped for a regroup they realized I wasn’t we were all bogged at one time or another.
Time was running away and we had to change our plans a few short cuts to get to the servo for lunch and fuel along the way Husq Mike managed to get filled in by a 4x4 going through a large puddle that did not make him to happy.
Feed and fueled up and a bit more maintenance to Ash’s bike (he had to ride the last half hour in 5th gear) and we were off on the return trip via some different tracks still wet and muddy but not as bad as the way up more rocky and hilly some of the hills we were lucky we were going down and not up as I am sure we would have been there for a long time as they were long and slippery and hard to get up on a good day.
By the time we got to one of the main tracks in the area we had about an hour of daylight left and it looked like we were in for a stormy wet ride back to the cars so we had vote on it and it was decided that we should take the direct route back. Along the way 7 of us just had to have one last blast along a single track for more muddy slop to finish the day off before following the others back to base.
Soaked through and a bit of a chill in the air so a quick change into some warm dry clothes before a night of entertainment and fun around the camp fire with plenty of hot food from the BBQ and good mates what else could you ask for oh yes Beer, Guinness, Rum, Whiskey and I cant remember anything after that.
Thanks to all that came along and made it as much fun as it was.
Tommy
