1st Adventure Test Ride
What happens when you get a 183kg Tenere or a 147kg DR650 and add another 90kg of rider and 95kg of camping gear , food, spares and tools. You get a weapon that’s great is a straight line on the hardtop and a handful on pea gravel.
The theory was to have this ride as #1 practise ride for the big ride in May 2013. Go for a Friday to Sunday ride, self supported and see what works. The weekend turned out hot so the idea of heading east turned into a ride in a southerly direction. Good decision number 1. The starting point of the Rock Inn was the first rest spot for some, others coming from up north had more difficulty making the starting time of 5pm. Ok I was so late that I wouldn’t have waited for me. We headed south past Jarrahdale and found a good bush camp close to the river. Armed with huge amounts of “book learnin” and little experience, tents, swags, chairs and stools of all sorts appeared from panniers. Lightweight dehydrated meals made an appearance and so did the Jetboil and Pocket Rocket stoves, including a metho burner. Good decision #2, I didn’t buy the Metho Stove. The pyromaniacs made a small campfire, Good decision #3 and meals were rehydrated with water and other liquids. Best chair is one with a back. Best light is the one without the strobe. Best meal is the one that doesn’t make you fart. More to come…..                                                  |
