Allen
Thanks for an unbeatable set of memories.

But what did I learn from the Cape Ride?

Camping is full of zippers and Velcro.
You can ride for 13000kms and still want to ride the next day.
Red dirt stains everything.
Bull sharks can be found 150kms inland.
Once you’ve ridden a rut at 120kph you’ll never fear ruts again.
Dehydrated food is crap.
Dunlop 606s make a long wearing front tyre, you can’t steer with them but they don’t wear out.
20mm of mattress can be comfortable.
The dessert is hot, cold, red and full of interesting people.
There are no salt water crocs in Australia.
It’s the 30mm deep water crossings that cause the most trouble.
The road after Hells Gate is fine.
They called it Boggy Hole for a reason.
Ask for a chook in any bar and they’ll look at you funny.
Heated grips are awesome.
The tip of Cape York is outstanding.
The barmaid at Marble Bar is scary insane.
Crustys are good blokes who will let you be yourself but are there when you need them.
Beer and bikes are good but to be taken independently.
Ferry driving must be an expensive business.
You can travel on a bike across Australia without a backup crew in cars. and survive.
Australia is a bloody big place. Trust me, I looked.

Pounce
12,753 Kilometres
$1,411 in fuel
No arse pimples
There are no camels in the centre of Australia
There are no emus across Australia
There are 3 cane toads in Qld
There are a million cattle across the top of Australia
The Agile Wallaby isn't that agile but mighty stupid
There are 9 fresh water crocodiles across the top of Australia
There are no salt water crocodiles across the top of Australia
There's a whole lota nuthin' across the centre of Australia
Deep rivers are a piece of piss
Deep sand sucks arse
The smell of the outback is the smell of death
Remember that you're in salty country before wading into the middle of a river 30 klm's from the NT coast to take photos of the guys crossing it
You need to travel above 100 kph on deep sandy corrugated roads to keep a straight line
DR's don't break as much as Tenere's
Pirelli Scorpion 554 front tyres are the best tyre ever
Pirelli MT21 rear tyres suck arse
Boggy Hole, never again
Gold Road, get on it mate
Set up or break camp in 20 minutes
Dirt road goes by quicker than tarmac
NT roads are the worst
WA is the most expensive
My friends father is 70 & doing this on a bike on his own, we're pussies

Todd
Great ride fellas, thanks Mick for calling it. 13000ks, 4 rear tyres, 1 front, 4 border crossings and a 1000 laughs. Seen a great variety of country and what better way to see it than on dirt roads away from all the traffic and bullshit with a top bunch of blokes. Loved the little pubs, camp grounds, roadhouses and cattle stations in the middle of nowhere, always heaps of beer [chooks] flowing. Had a broken bracket that holds the screen on the Tenere which we fixed with cable ties and tape, but apart from that the Tenere was a strong comfortable bike. The whole trip was a highlight for me and the bikes still loaded, so im tempted to throw a leg over and just keep going, cheers

Jacko
hi guys, good to see everyone having lots of fun.
i had to fly back from broome yesterday unfortunatly the old drz developed electrical issues that couldnt be fixed quickly enough to continue.the alternator and pickup coil need replacing.luckily it stoped right beside a park bay on the gnh where a couple going prospecting with a truck and caravan were there and they took me to the broome turn off where the boys organised the bike shop ute to come and pick me up.
apart from that, what a fantastic trip it was.every day a new adventure. lots of great scenery everywhere. i was surprised at just how green the country is now, even the spinifex is green, and water laying around everywhere, long grass and fat cattle by the million.
there were lots of highlights along the way like the great central road, uluru, atherton tablelands, cape york, daintree and the bloomfeild track to the lions den, the old telegraph track which tommy and i tackled to the southern bypass, then the savana way from mareeba to katherine, a swim at materanka, meeting up with jnr at katherin with cold beers and bbq ,and the gibb river road and finally broome.
other highlights were all the river and creek crossings, lots of great old country pubs, and camp grounds.
there must be thousands of stories to tell between us all so thanks to all the crew for making it such a great trip, catch yas soon,
the drz was doing it easily until the electrical gremlins stepped in. in some places like the finke river i was glad i wasnt wrestling a heavier beast through the soft sand. it still had the original front tyre on when i got to broome so ill be keeping it for the next trip.

Mick
Must have taken us all a few days to recover after pushing the bike into the shed.
What a great ride with a great bunch of blokes.
We saw heaps of the country from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, deserts to rainforests, single boggy tracks to windy bitumen roads over the Great Dividing Range, wide fast dirt roads to corrugated bulldust holed roads, big rocks and hills covered in clouds.
We made new words, names & sayings: If it’s cooking it’s not happening, Chooks, 16 cents get on it, The Mad Tagger, Have a Chat, resilient, Boggy Hole & Bum F__ck just to name a few.

Pete
