A perfect day was on offer yesterday so we made the most of it with a call the head out. One of the best days I have had at Woky despite the roo encounter.

Got to the ride spot nice and early. Jace and I were keen to find some hills on the other side of the road that eluded us last week so we headed there first. Found some great hills and heaps of tracks on that side which was great so we have some great extra options now. One good big hill full of clay was a bit of fun. A few creek crossings. Also a few gnarly hills that we will leave to another time.

It was not long after this that a big boomer roo decided to shirt front me to show who’s boss of the bush. I took off leading on a nice big open trail. Just getting up to a good speed as plenty of track laid out in front. The boomer steps in. He must have been stationary behind a tree and decided to cross over as I came through. No time to react as he came straight out in front. He nearly cleared me and I thought he would just move out of the way before impact but not to be as he must have been mid hop at that point. Don’t recall much after that. End over end I go down the trail at speed. I thought the bike may keep coming and clean me up also but it dug in and lucky that did not occur. Took some time to get my bearings back. Shoulder and foot in pain but not broken. When I got my breath back I went to check the bike. The boys had found the GPS somewhere on the track. Tools out and start the adjustments. Smashed bark buster, gravel lodged all over, ripped hand grip. Repositioned light and adjusted levers etc. Then needed to straighten quite a bent wheel. Overall I was very lucky to not hit the roo head on and lucky I had a clear track ahead to tumble roll down and not hit something harder other than the ground that my shoulder must have taken with the first impact.

20 mins later we were on the way again. Headed back over the other side for the next leg of the trip. Jace did a brilliant job leading and finding trails. We had a laugh as Jace managed to find all the biggest bog holes during the day showing us the line not to take. Due to all the rain the he took some lines that looked good only to sink in half a metre a mud only to become stuck fast.

The main creek crossing was full with water up to air filter. Overall we had a great day in great conditions and covered some good solid flowing kms. I certainly felt every bump in that last 30kms due to my injured shoulder. Putting arm over my head today is very painful.

Thanks to new player Brad for sweep duties. A few beers with all after went down great after a top day. Twoody rode in style with nonchalance as usual and I look forward to some good future trips. Brad was getting back into it after a break and mentioned “Now this is real riding”. I think he may be feeling it today. Towards the end when Jace said this is the last hill, I think he said “Thank f… for that”.

Great day overall, thanks fellas. See you out there soon.
Cheers.
