Seabird to Lano
saturdays ride report.
nathan, jacko, trentwa. with so many rides to choose from i chose one that i havent done before. we met at the ovt and then drove to seabird. the pub carpark was closed so we found a new one just out of town. we set off along the typical winding coastal tracks and noticed a lot of wire laying on the tracks with nathan getting snagged in the first five minutes. later on we tried a beach run but the sand was the softest i have ever seen. the bikes were struggling to get through it and when we reached the end there was no way off so we had to go back. i found some harder sand right down among the waves and mide it back ok.nathan took a higher line and the strain of it all caused his bike to overheat and stop half way back. he let it cool down and then took the radiator cap off to check the water with the boil over burning his finger. with the bike cooled off and water topped up we headed for some inland tracks where the sand was firmer and the riding easier.we made it to lano and had a feed and a rest then noticed a storm brewing just offshore and decided to race it back to the cars.it is a nice stretch of the coast there and i was surprised how many shacks are still there, some made from railway carriges. we were wondering how they got them down there among the dunes. back at the cars with 100ks on the clock and we just beat the storm. a perfect days riding. |
