A perfectly named ride, they have sand of all types down there, hard sand, soft sand, wet and dry sand, white, yellow and grey sand, fine sand that looks like talc but doesn't feel like it when your pants are full. And sand that can make a front wheel disappear before your very own eyes, isn't that right Lee?
Sand that crunches in your mouth and crackles in your ears. Especially after you do a real good face plant into it like I did a couple of times.
Geoff and Fred did a terrific job of leading and sweeping, a top mornings ride through the hills following sandy vehicle tracks ending up on the beach with the mother of all dunes for us to try and get up.
Lee came unstuck not long after we hit the beach and didn't move for quite a while, I'm thinking "oh shit, that doesn't look good," but he slowly came around and we were off again.
More dunes, then dunes and past those were some dunes. I saw some bush but there were dunes to be ridden up down round and around. We ended up at Geoff's place for a refuel, lunch and a rest.
After lunch we headed of to a cliff top on the coast, some went a route to the bottom and some went to the top to watch the riders tackle the tricky and long hill climb. Amassing view of the Southern Ocean from the top of that cliff, she was all deep, dark, cold and covered in white caps from the stiff breeze.
Along some more tracks, I dodged a roo coming at me From my left.
Soon after, Craig blows a front tyre with a real good dent in the rim to match. Not long and that was fixed, we were off again. Then we came across some dunes, these were nothing like the earler dunes, these were all huge and sandy with some rocks for a change. Heaps of fun roaring up down and around them with an entertaining hill climb at the end,
Some making it and some not. Craig shows us all how it's done, flys up the dune then turns left at the top and wheelies along the crest, nice work.
Then a long run down some more sandy vehicle tracks and we were some where near the start so that was about it for me, Allan, beetle and I head back to town and the rest headed off for a single trail and some beach riding to finish up. Beetle meets a 4x4 at the crest of a track, luckily no harm done.
We couldn't have ordered better conditions with a couple days of rain prior and over cast during the day to keep the glare and temperature down.
I finished up with 130ks on the clock and the rest would have push past 150 I imagine.
Big effort to head down and back but well worth it. The Stirling ranges with the after noon sun reflecting of them was a sight to see.
Thanks to all who came along and a special thanks to our hosts who put together a fantastic days ride. Cheers all.

WrfPaul.
