Trail Report: May 19th 2001

Players: Brad, Glen, JAW, Mik, Wolfie
Venue: Time Trials, Alkimos and Yanchep Scramble
Rider of the Day: Mik - Another Time Trial PB and general good hard riding.
Stack of the Day: Brad - Several miscellaneous stacks, the best one giving his new helmet a good test.
Breakages & Injuries: No breakages, a few pulled muscles/backs/headaches but only enough to show nobody was mucking around.

Report:

Mik: "It's my only day off for the next month"... JAW: "I've gotta test some fixers I made to the 600"... Brad: "I'm not able to make it to Hendry farm next weekend"... Wolfie: " "... Seems everybody was making any excuse for a ride. Except for Wolfie, he doesn't need an excuse ;)

Perfect day for a ride too, rain in the morning easing into a windless overcast mild afternoon. You almost can't ask for better conditions. After the four participants got their act together and hit the dirt, the time trials were on.

Just when you'd thought the time keeping saga was completely over there is a new twist. "Use the right button to split," Brad explains the operation of the new stop watch, "Easy". First lap for Mik reveals that no, that's a stop start button not a split button. Arghh! All players need to take Time Keeping 101.

Time Trial Results.

Mik leads with a blistering pace on his "new" XR250. So blistering in fact that he gets Rider of the Day. You can't consistently smash 10 seconds off your personal best every race meet and not get some recognition. Brad is a little out of form, mumbles about his bald rear road-trail tyre. "Yeah Brad, it is a bit bald". We can be a patronising bunch ;)

Wolfie and JAW head off. Wolfie has thrown his back out earlier from a missed hill-climb but in the face of adversity still manages to go as hard Mik for their joint 2:02. Nice work Wolfie. JAW is quite dissapointed with his 2:07 even if it is only his second ride on the XR630. 'Nuff said.

At this stage there is another overwhelming sence of deja-vu as the players bump into Glen on his stonkin' 1997 KTM300 2-stroker. "Care to put a time in?" "Yeah, sure!" ...and takes the day with a 1:53. The lads are getting used to lone riders meeting up with them and then making them look silly.

It's a friendly world out there, if you want it to be. Glen joins the Crusty Quinns team for the day and gets an honourable position in the Crusty Quinns hall of fame.

The lads park for a rest on the Alkimos hill.

Speaking of the Crusty Quinns hall of fame, Brad during the week had made up some Crusty Quinns Dirt Bike Club stickers. These stickers are given to those who have shown their commitment to the cause through regular participation and are proudly displayed on their bikes. See Brad, holder of the stickers, if you think you are ready to wear the Crusty Quinns official badge of honour ;)

Back on the track the lads have hit the Alkimos big jump. Wolfie opts out, it's gotta be hard being old and needing to nurse a sore back. But it was kinda lucky in a way: "Hey JAW I'll take some photos if ya like." "Cool Wolfie." In fact, nice work - you can be the camera man whenever you like...

One of several stacks by Brad.

When you are having a bad day you have a bad day. It's like if you are about to come unstuck, *DON'T* look at that tree - if you do that's what you'll hit. After Brad stacked it the first time it seemed he was destined to repeat it. Again and again...

Meantime The Yanchep drag race showed that a KTM300 2-stroker is really, really quick, that even '80s tech bikes still boogie hard, that the big bore 4 stroke boys are capable of >130kph and that a brand spanker TT250 is suprisingly fast.

Okay a brand spanker TT250 might be fast but she still goes down like any other bike. Brads final hit which won him Stack of the Day left him sprawled on the ground wondering which way was up. Wolfie helped him get his helmet off, the others looked on nervously.

After spitting out several mouthfuls of sand there was a smile and the lads breathed a sigh of relief.

"Just another battle scar :)"
