Trail Report: September 15th 2002
Report: Mik is pretty happy about getting his shocky fixed. "The guy reckoned it was one of the worst he'd seen, reckoned it had little oil left and what it did had looked like the black scum from the bottom of a diesel engine sump." Well good job you finally sorted it ;)
After half an hour of "observation" Brad, Rob and Wolfie decide that Phil should be organised a lift home. Mik is still keen to test the rebuilt shock and JAW is still chaffin' at the bit for some fast riding. The group parts ways, JAW and Mik to Yanchep, others getting Phil home.
Back at the Alkimos Mik discovers the dune jump once again has a pretty good lip. The torrential rain the day before and all morning has also given the sand plenty of grip. Mik and JAW take turns in trying to get some good jump shots; but with the sun rapidly fading the photos do not do any justice to the fun being had with a bit of airtime ;)
JAW, Mik and Rob head back to the scene... Wolfie is pretty cold from sitting around waiting for the rescue team. "Guys, I've gotta go." "No worries Wolfie, see you on the messageboard ;)" As the sun is slowly setting JAW alerts Mik and Rob to the fact that his front headlight had blown. Rob grabs his mobile phone, rides up to the nearest hill and gives Brad a call. "I've only just got off Marmion Ave." Hmm. The lads stash the bike in the bush and head out, Rob up in front escorting headlightless JAW with Mik pulling up the rear. Halfway back they catch up with Brad driving out. "Just past Mik's hill, about 20 metres to the right." "No worries." With a bit of XR stunt-team riding Mik stays next to JAW down the tracks so they can share Mik's headlight, Rob leads the way with his brigther headlight. A slow ride; Rob up front taking it easy, JAW "using the force" to navigate and Mik trying to keep close enough and yet far enough back in case of collision; eventually all are back home. ...hoping that Phil is okay. Moral of the story, as always, motorbikes are dangerous so be careful! Wear your safety gear and ride within your own limits. Some "rational fear" is a good thing. Play hard but for goodness sake play carefully.
