Report by Rob:

The crew gathered nice-early-keen, ready to set off up north for a fang around some different riding areas than the norm. 2 new faces. Roley is Col's brother and on Pete's DR. Simon brings along his mate Lee, riding a good machine for the territory, a very tidy 90 model RMX 250. Already the pisstakes and discussion had started about who was gunna whip who, and who bought their bike from 'Toys are US', or 'Big Boys Toys'. There is a bit of a feisty feel to the general banter. Richard is the only one running late. He gets back and cant find the rear wheel spacers for the CR500. He takes the 29 year old Yamaha MX 360 instead. While he is mucking about with that, the lads take a look thru his bike collection.

We all do the road run up to Two Rocks. 30k's I think, and further for Simon, Col, and Roley. Its a bastard riding on the tar with knob tyres. We fuel up at the start area and get into it. The tracks are similar to north of Pipidinny road, and generally easier riding than the Crusty Quinns rides. At the top of the first boggy hill we hear a stroker come 3/4 of the way up and stop. Lee is having a bit of fun getting bogged. He turns around and tries again up the other side of what now shall be known as 'Lee's Gully'. He's dropped it again at the top of the other side, and this time having a bit of trouble starting. Its exhausting work when thats going on, and he decides to try again some other time. No worries, Lee will be back I'm sure. We have all been there mate.

Mint afternoon gathering. Some good gear on display

We get up to the 'First Dune Area' and start to flog around. Its great stuff. The 30+ brigade is putting on a good display. Roley is having trouble getting up on top, and Simon had a tumble on the throttle side banging a barkbuster and throttle assembly too far on the bars, causing Mid-Size anvil to have no throttle spring return. A quick repair and stuffing of parts into the backpack, and we are off up the 'Fenceline'

It is about 9k's up the fenceline that we reach our resting place. A shack out in the middle of nowhere. It was a bit of an interesting trip up. I ran sweeper and conditions were very dusty. We came across Clint on the Pichon Stickered RM250, and Max on a Husberg going the other way. Max caught back up to me at the tail and asked what we were doing, and he motored on by pretty much like I was standing still. I had seen Clint and Norm + 2 others the day before at Whitesands and told them about Sunday. I think Dano was talking to Max at the shackstop about being a tour guide for a ride for us lads sometime in the future. Funny I was thinking about Roley coming off in front of both Simon and I on a bit of a difficult boggy area, causing us 2 to get bogged also. When I mentioned it at the shack, the guys all agreed. heh. "You know when its a difficult corner, because Roley will be lying in the middle of it when you get there". heh, Good Stuff :)

It was good to have a bit of a break. Conditions definetely warm and dusty for a crusty. Out came the glucose, drinks, and a few ciggy's.  Max showed everyone how to exit over the first hill when he left. Dont ya hate that!! Col and Roley decided to get going as it was a bit of a trip back for them because of the extra tar work involved. Off they went, and more kicking back was done by the remaining 7 guys. We all got dressed again and took off back along the fenceline to the 2nd dune area.

On the trip back we lost the front few who had gone on way ahead to a big hill. Just as we are sitting there waiting, some 4 strokes arrive. Its Col and Roley!! And they are lost!! heh. Well out comes some serious pisstaking now from the guys. Instead of the rabbit proof fence, we have the crusty proof fenceline. A few redirects from Andy, and the 2 are on their way. Its decided to go get hold of Richard, Dano, and Phil, and get going to the dune area

A needed stop, but only 9k's from town. One of the harder days to get riding done.

One half of 'Lee's Gully'

Its all go once we are on the dunes again. Everyone is doing some good stuff. No traffic to really speak of, and the sandy hill challenge's are mint. Its hard work for me on the 600. Simon has found some legs on the trip back, and I'm having a few troubles hanging in there with him. This will get resorted out when the YZ comes back to life. Anvil work is hard work.

Andy and Tim let Richard have a blast on their mounts. Basically if you want to see what your bike is capable of, let Richard ride it around the dunes for you. Wasn't long before we were all stopped and watching him ride like some sort of energizer bunny.

Richard 'Running in' one of the test bikes on offer.

Watching the show.

"Hey gimme the bike back" Tim says. Its only a 7 litre tank.

Its time to get back to the start area for a refuel, so more dune riding can be done. On the trip back, Tim's bike stops. Theres the normal pisstake etc, and its decided the new generation 4 stroke will have to have some KTM 2 stroke juice courtesy of Phil. 1 Litre later and she still wont fire. Theres more laughs and pisstakes going on, while Tim kicks. I decide to 'lend a leg', and I get up close and notice the fuel is turned off. heh-heh. A few swift kicks by an 'inspired' Tim and we are back on our way. We never did find out just who it was that turned the tap off.

Thats it Phil. Give that 4 some '2 Stroke Juice'

We get down to the refuel area, and its talk of 1 or 2 more hours playing about. Simon decides to get going with his days riding done. He really stepped it up today. Good stuff. All topped back up, and away we head. There are some good bits of sand to be had, and even the 600 anvil gets its wheels off the ground, for the first time in about 8 months. News comes thru that Richard's bike had stopped. It had started blowing blue smoke badly about half way back, and now was dead. Wire brushing the plug and setting the fouling carbon on fire started it for a few revs, but that was all. Phil to the rescue, and Richard takes ownership of the Hog Award.

There is talk of "1 more hour" at Marmion just to "finish the day off". We dont make it with the Hog award problems, and we pretty much split from there. These guys love their riding, and are super keen! I tried a solo Yanchep Crusty Quinns run on the way back, but pulled out of it at Pipidinny. Just too much for me. I get back home just in time to see Phil and Richard talking to Bec. They see I'm not home, and hand over my backpack to Bec saying "Thats all we could find of him". heh. Nice :)    Another day well spent in the sand.

Phil getting 'Wheelie Action' *R.O.T.D*

Big Boys Toys, or Toys are US ? Funny stuff, heh.

Dano, you have all that track (2 in fact), and
you decide you would rather run over my feet?

He loves it. Tim in action.
