Report by Rob:

A Boxing Day/Midweek ride is organised on the messageboard, and the guys gather nice and early in an effort to beat some of the summer heat. Brad is pretty well ready when I arrive, and a bit of a dodgy run thru the wet reticulated streets on knobbies on the way down for the 0730 kickoff time. The ute users are unloaded and ready to go, and we all head off as soon as Dano and Tim arrive. 0700 next time to beat more heat?

Early morning ride's. Beats the heat and some of the 4WD traffic.
Lads all prepped up and ready to fire. Tim and Dano missed
the start line photo.

The agenda for the morning is to get out to the time trial layout, and sort out a few things amongst the guys. The Eglington hill run is done, and we paused at the bottom to let the Emu family have some track, and get out of the way. Crusty fella's come'n thru.

A bit of the old beach run, and some inland work up thru the carpet jump area gets us out to the time trial start point. The lads have a bit of a breather, and Dano heads off with me behind for some stopwatch work. I gave myself 10 seconds behind, but should have made it 25 seconds really. The layout is very dusty. On the second lap, Keith drops in behind me and as we exited 'The Pit', theres Dano standing with bike in the bushes on the left at 90 degrees to the track. I would have stopped except he was up on his feet, and I was on a bit of a run. Enjoying himself on the layout, and being by far the quickest, Dano picks up Rider of the day. Keith has slotted straight into the action, and gone sub 2 minute on his sighting lap. He nipped past me when I out braked myself, and couldn't get any where near him after that (no surprises there). He pulled out of his 3rd lap though with some pretty severe arm pump by the looks. Yes, the time trial is still a good test.

Earthworks anyone? Nice Roost .

Gathered at the start line. Note the bushfire damage. Dano really likes
to bury the 250 when parking.

Andy and Tim get cracking on the track layout, and Andy fails to come back round when he should have. He had a bit of a big one. Lost the front, and over the bars. A few suspension adjustments a bit later may have cured that on the 500.

Tim eases himself into the layout and manages 4 seconds behind Andy's time, but with no injuries. heh, It gets pretty funny as the pair of them start taking the piss out of each other.

Brad and Phil decided to give it a miss. Brad probably breaking in the new Christmas prezzy gloves, and Phil decided to do wheelie practice instead.

Off we head to the Alkimos dunes for a fang. The area is pretty well empty of traffic, but its starting to get hot already. The lads grab some shade at the top of the hill for abreak. The unanimous call is made to get back to the 'Shower Area' for more of a cool down. It's a good paced blast back to the unwind spot. No water available however from the shower, so its a bit of mucking about on the various hill climb spots in the area.

Mid morning and its time for a refuel for the bikes, and for the Camelbacks. Brad, Dano, and Tim say their goodbye's (Brad and I have a bit of a ride on the YZ426. Yes very tasty, and bloody amazing the things pull for a 4 stroke) Andy and Keith go grab the drinks, and camera batteries in the ute, while a few of us go stand under the sprinklers that are running on the grass. Phil is having a bit of a shocker. He wants to do part 2 of the ride, but he loads the bike onto the ute, and goes to the shop and grabs his own drink. He mustn't trust us with his bike. heh. Anyhow, he unloads again, and off we go for a bit more of a 'Gentlemens Ride".

'Sandy Andy'. He's been over the bars.

Keith getting air. Top paddock jump area.
The 200 stroker is running a bit under powered, so a new plug is inserted courtesy of Andy. Thats enough to get Keith going again. A gentle ride up thru the paddocks is done, and I checked out the trip meter on my bike, and I pushed the YZ last week 2km when it seized.

Out to the various jump area's and everyone has a bit of air under the wheels. The lads found a hill climb area last time out, so we go off to check that out.

The hill climb turns out to be tougher than it looks. There is no substitute for cubes here. Its second gear and wide open for me on the XR6, and first gear for the other guys. Its good stuff though, and one thing about the bushfires, is that it has cleared a lot of the grass away, so there isnt any surprises when you have to go bush. The rabbit holes are visible, and the blackboys show their true width as you approach.

Keiths new line, hill climb attempt. Photo takes
away some of the slope unfortunately.

Phil USD, and Keith lining up for another go at it.

Phil shown here down the bottom of the hill, with the KTM upside down. That was pretty funny to watch, except he's hurt himself around the shoulder area. Keiths managed to get turned around after nearly making it. The photo takes a bit of the steepness out of the situation. All in all, the KTM lads were struggling to get atop the hill climb. Proof that if you have 'Honda Power', there's not much else to do than wait for the guys to get themselves up the hill climbs.

Big cubes make light work of the hills. Waiting for the KTM brigade.

A ride west from the hill climb, then along the fenceline, down to the Crusty Quinns track north of Alkimos is about enough for everbody. The XR was well into reserve before I borrowed 1 litre of stroker juice from Phil to get me back. Its decided to take an easy route back, to rest Phil and his shoulder. Its getting pretty much uncomfortable in the heat so its time to pack this show up and get home for cold showers and dips in the pool. Good one guys.

One last photo showing the fire marks on the trail.
