Report by JAW

The weather seems to know to ease off when a lot of players want to ride. Although there was no letting up in the wind department, the threatening thunderstorm, mild temperatures and general overcast conditions made for an invitation to get some petrol pumping.

A huge turnout, biggest ever at a peak number of 13 players. Lucky thirteen too, the time trial lap times came crashing down as the one minute fifty barrier was broken and personal bests placed by keen lappers.

Record number at a peak of 13 players.

As you could imagine, keeping such a large pack together wasn't going to come easily. Rob was video camera enabled to source some of that elusive footage for Crusty Quinns 2 The Video but the players weren't going to make it easy for him. After an "all roads lead to Rome" approach the pack congregated at the time trial with settles to score.

Who invited the sand! In your eyes, in your ears - and anywhere else you cared to expose. The wind was relentless but worse so was the number of 4x4s. No time trails...well for now anyway.

She'll be coming down the mountain...

Richard with his stolen CR450F returned,
and pretty happy about it.

A run to Yanchep is the standard. Suprisingly the trip out and back was quite uneventfull. A bit of Wolfies Agility course, a bit of the inland run, and a high speed chase to the tanks.

Perched on the hill out come the lollies and the trash talk. It's handy that there is still plenty of riding to go in order to settle some minor opinions of "differences" in rider ability.

Back at the Alkimos dune Wolfie and Brad head home, Wolfie has done a damage to his knee. We all hope you are okay Wolfie. Brad is nominated - in his absense and unable to defend himself - as Stack of the Day. It's a tough crowd.

On the dune jump Richard is aceing the airtime on the newly recovered CR450F, and whoa, what an exhaust note. Dano is putting on a bit of a show and even Tim426 and JAW leave the ground. MartyMoose was looking more at home on the track than in the freestyle airtime but seemed to be putting some practise in. Other players pulled out some air passes but, alas, jumping (apart from in Richard and absent-Mik's hands), is not a Crusty Quinns fave. Rob had the video camera out and all...

Thunderstorm threatened all day but nothing came of it.

MartyMoose takes the
timetrial crown - earning him
Rider of the Day

Ah but we now cut the the chase, literally. A late-in-the-day timetrial is on and some *huge* laps are performed. The track is fast, real fast, the chronic wind must have flattened out the woops. Almost all players who put in a lap go sub two minute club; only 4x4s prevent others from join the ranks on the day.

Featuring the highlights:

  • MartyMoose'as superb debut, on the old '87 KTM 350 stroker, at 1:48;
  • Dano breaking the one fifty barrier for elite-members-only-may-apply Sub One Fifty club;
  • Tim426 and Andy settling a messageboard dispute; even though on at least two laps Tim426 was seen stopping for a sand nap;
  • Andy welcome to S2MC
  • JB welcome to S2MC
  • The great Blacksmith Challenge between XR600 Anvil riders Rob and JAW drawn even on 1:59.

Huge meet, huge times, what a day.
