Rider of the day Sully
Stack of the day Deets
As it was going to be a hot 35 C and we new the dust was going to be thick I was surprised to see 11 riders turn out for the long haul from Lano to Cervantes and return. Danny (Dan) bought a couple of his mates along to have their first CQ ride. I went over to introduce myself and his first mate said hi, I'm Dan, and then the second said hi, I'm Dan too. Must be bit confusing having a conversation in their car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE GROUP HAVING A REST ON THE WAY BACK TO WEDGE FROM

Craig lead the group up towards Wedge with the first problem being Dan2 picking up a front flat not to far from Wedge. He limped into Wedge to do a tube change just to find the spare that Col was carrying was a rear one. Deets came to the rescue with his puncture repair kit which kept the tyre up all the way to Cervantes. Unfortunately the large cuts didn't hold and it was down again by the time lunch was over. Dan2 Picked up a can of that puncture repair stuff but it didn't last long and he ended up riding most of the way home on a flat.

LUNCH AND FUEL STOP AT CERVANTES ROAD HOUSE.

Craig had a great time up front dodging the wild life and other track users coming the other way. Roos were jumping out of the track side shadows and some were so lazy they were just laying there watching us go by. I rounded a corner to find the bikes banked up, a 4 x 4 in the middle of the track and Craigs bike on its side. He missed the ute but went bush, came down, scratched the new plastics and took a piece of skin of his neck somehow.

There were a few other good offs reported for the day but Deets had to pick up SOTD. After returning to the off road car park, Deets to a run up a large dune that had a big drop off on the other side. The pic tells the story!

DEETS AFTER HE WENT OVER THE BARS IN THE DUNES AT THE OFF ROAD CARPARK.

I (Col) had a turn up front a couple of times heading back to Lano from Wedge. I was riding as hard as I could, hard on the throttle and sliding in and out of corners and thinking I was doing a pretty good job. On at least two occasions while riding faster than I had ever ridden before, Sully screams past, high on the pegs, bike kicked out at 45 degrees through the turns and passes me like I was a beginner on a Pee Wee 50. I think this guy could give Howard a run for his money on a Wedge trip.

Deets also got into a bit of high speed over taking today. He would sit back after a regroup and let the riders get away, then pick his way through the field. He also past me hard and fast on a couple of occasions just with out the finess of Sully. When Deets passes, it's a combination of noise, dust and a 525 flicking from one side of the trail to another. Mind you, he does do it well and keeps the bike upright.

Pete and Roley rode up the rear looking after any of us that had problems. Cols bike stopped a few times and wouldn't restart. Going over the electrics and fuel ect, Deets found that the carby was empty. The was fuel coming through the tap but what was causing the problem. An after market fuel breather was found to be the cause and after it was unblocked, the bike ran like a dream again.

The rest of the guys had a good ride without any problems. There were a couple of others that could have picked up ROTD. Dan3 showed some good riding skills, Clive rode that bloody big 600 through the boggy sand well, Danny rode hard and fast and Craig lead a great ride. Well done to all the guys for marking the corners and making sure we all stayed together.
