The Night Enduro.

Riders turned out with all sorts of lights bolted to the bikes, hooked on their helmets and even stuck in their spokes. All of the Crutsy's got down there early and set up camp, got a fire going and relaxed before hitting the trails in the dark. I had light problems for the first lap until I grabbed a hand full of wires and disconnected the spotty, adjusted the standard light and got back under way. I think most guys did alright riding on the standard light but all said a better light would have made the ride a lot easier. Some guys only did one lap, others did a couple and a few did about five.

The highlight of the night ride for me was following luminous signs across a large paddock (valley) in top gear and hoping a roo wasn't about to take me out. The signs were placed on both sides and covered a couple of k's. This section looked like a run way at an airport. It was a real buzz.

After the ride we again relaxed around the fire and had a cook up, a few drinks and plenty of laughs about the event so far. Some young guys camped next to us entertained us until about 11.30 with loud music, foul language and general noise. I was pretty happy to go off to sleep around midnight.

The day ride was following the same trails as we had ridden the night before. I could not believe the amount of whoops, rocks and logs I rode over in the dark or must have only just missed by inches. Trail time was not too generous with most guys only just coming in under time and virtually taking off straight away. I went over time on the third and fourth loop and can't remember the last time I lost time on the trails. The special test was just one big goat trail littered with rocks and close in amongst the trees. I think that only the top riders would have performed well in that section.

Anyone who made the four laps under time deserves rider of the day in my book. I think I'll wait for the results to give out that award. Well done to all who gave it their best and had a go at both the day and night ride.
