Metro
Where - Metro Road
When - June 30th Who - John, Frank, Brett, Roccop, Colin McCaughey With the extra rain we have had this week, Col McC called for a ride to Metro roads and we had 6 players for the trip. All suited and booted, we took off from the usual parking area and got straight into the infamous Metro whoops, to make sure everybody was warmed up. They were a bit different today in that plenty of them were 1/2 full of water and some you had no idea how deep they really were. All the better reason to no drop the front wheel in them. Frank had the first drama of the day, as his Kacker (or should that be Kwacker - LOL) threw its chain and we stopped whilst he got it back on and readjusted. The first loop seemed to fly by, as the group took stock of the conditions and the amount of lying water. The legendary water hole by the fence lane was approached and refused, as its currently twice the size it normally is and we reckoned it could currently swallow a bike whole! Rocco however must have water wings, or just plain likes having cold, wet, smelly feet, as he took off round the alternative route to the side, just to see how deep it was. Not that bad as it turns out, but that dirty muddy water was not for the rest of us and we got him to come back (i am sure the rest of us were secretly wishing him to have a crack at the main puddle, so we could point, laugh and say we told you so!!). Back to the cars and a refuel and drink and for Frank to take his leave from us, as he had a wedding to go to. I did wonder if he was the king of cool, if the wedding was his own and he was going riding whether she liked it or not!! The pace picked up a bit for the second loop, as John took off at the front and Col McC and the the other 2 played their own game of catch up with an amended corner man system (ie Col tried to go as fast as possible and then use himself as corner man to catch his breath - LOL). Then John started to turn rather green at the gills, as too much piss the night before and 2 stroke fumes had him worried he was going to have a "chunder in crash helmet" moment. The 2nd half of the 2nd loop was new to most of us and had a couple of cheeky hills, some deep puddles and some fast sandy corners, that all made for some big smiles and wet feet. Oh and slippy logs, that had Brett down on the floor, for the only stack of the day. All riders had their moments with the puddles, as you just could not tell how deep they were. But at least it kept the boots clean!!! All in all a decent effort for Metros and thanks to Sam for leading most of it. SOTD - Brett |
