Report by Col.

The scene down at the meeting spot at Metros almost resembled a T & E club meet. I think we might have to introduce day licenses if the active riders grow much more in numbers. 17 riders assembled for a ride through the goat trails lead by Orry. As usual, Orry with his expert knowledge of the area lead us on a great ride meandering along goat trails, down 4 x 4 tracks, fire tails and over 23568 whoops (give or take one or two) You pick up ROTD Orry.

Smithy, one of the new guys picked up SOTD with a sensational crash into a couple of trees. I was following him through a long mud hole at a decent speed when his bike kicked sideways and off he went into the scrub. He dismounted his WR and shirt fronted the first tree like he was a rugby union player and then after a bit of a pirouette landed hard into the second tree. The poor old WR took it hard with a few hundred dollars worth of damage up front but fortunately he got up and appeared not to have any broken bones!!!! Well done Smithy for the SOTD award on your first ride.

Orry was next to go down after his front tyre slid out from under him while leaving a large whoop. No damage or injuries here. Just a bark buster facing the wrong direction that was quickly put back to where it started from. Big Col Mc thought he would have a go at an award as well and attempted an over the bars high side on one of those long whoop sections. Cols bike was OK but he landed hard on his "larger frame" (arse and back) and thought it wiser to head back to the cars and we were only a few k's into the second loop. The only thing he was worried about was going home and telling Marj.

I followed Col back to the cars to make sure he was OK and the rain started coming down hard. By this time the main group was down to 13 with Orry still up front and Rocco taking the sweep position. With plenty of other good moments out there and only one set of eyes I tend to miss heaps of stuff that would be worth adding to the reports. A special mention to Fiona who keeps that little 230 moving along at a top pace. Good to see Danny back after his long break backpacking around Europe. Also another special mention to Haydn who for the last 10 years has only ridden around sand dunes in the middle east and look liked he'd only taken five minutes to master the goat trails, gravel and close encounters with trees.

Well done to everyone else who made the effort get out for a ride in such bad weather. I know riding in big groups is not every ones cup of tea but that's what the CQ rides are all about. Plenty of laughs and ribbing and someone to help you up when you come down.

Later in the day I also spoke to KXSteve who said he was pretty impressed with Rocco's underwater skills after riding the big 400 through the deep side of the water/mud crossing next to the fence line. many have attempted this one after heavy rain but most just fail and find a dewatering is in order to get the bike going again. Well done big fellow.

Also a quote from Danny from the message board

"Col. you missed a good one on the last 50 metres i gassed it on the slippery stuff ended up the other way and slid along in the mud for about 10 odd metres on my ass. meanwhile still spinning around most comical stack i ever seen. good ride, good to be back on the saddle. ta"

Al the new riders names etc will be added once I get all their details.

Check this out. Still flying through the air.

I think I am OK - I'll just try to get up.

Fiona thinks it's pretty funny!!!

Time to recover after the new guy hits the tree.

Broken head light and shroud. Smashed speedo and various other bits and pieces.
