The Powerlines
Report by Pounce and Choko
10 showed up for the ride this morning. There were 7 regulars, RoccoP, Andrew, Dale, Pounce, Tony, Choko, Damo and 3 new guys, Bob, Andrew, and Daniel. Roccop put his hand up to lead and Pounce decided to relax and ride sweep. Normal setoff towards the creek. That first rocky hill you come to on the powerline track, well I think the new fella Daniel took 2 tumbles on that one. He has been in Aus for only four months and this is his first ride in years. The big YZ450 is a bit peaky for him on the hills I think. We all make it down to the turnoff area for the roadhouse and turn inland along the goat trail. Daniel has 2 more tumbles along that bit. We reverse track along the fire trail that Chris has taken us down twice and back onto the powerlines. We get seperated at a turn for some reason so Andrew gets it all sorted out, thanks, and we all eventually meet up at the creek. Unfortunatley about 100mtrs before the creek crossing the new guy Andrew's front wheel got caught in a rut which sent him over the bars into a rugby tackle towards a big blackboy, really jarring his shoulder. Choko was sweeping at the time and got an awsome veiw of it, well done Andrew for picking up SOTD on your first ride. He's a bit sore and sorry so Dale put his hand up to escort him back to the cars (Dale's hungover and not feeling the best either). That leaves 8 of us to scoot along the creek. It was perfect! Damo puts his hand up to lead from here. He knows the area pretty well, so it's off down the creek. We rode and rode and rode, we did the whole creek and then kept going, he took us to tracks none of us had ridden before. There were hill climbs, creek crossings, and just endless amounts off fast flowing trails. It was awesome! We ended up near Flynn Rd and by this time Daniel was totally knackered and nearly out of fuel, Tony had to get back for a prior engagement so Pounce said he'ld take them back as he knew the way from where we were. The other 5 fly off in a cloud of dust with out nerry a wave. Up Flynn Rd, back to the powerlines and the decision not to go over to the Lakes for fuel (YZ450'S are not conducive to long trail rides) didn't make a difference. 2klm's later the YZ is empty. DRZ fuel tanker to the rescue! Found an empty beer bottle, good on us Aussies for our littering policy, transfered 1 litre and away the 3 go. Get back to the cars after an eventful 87klms and a good ride. Meanwhile the other 5... After a few more hill climbs and river crossings, Andrew had lost his clutch mount and the tanks were getting low so we decided to make are way back. Without a doubt ROTD goes to Damo for showing us some awesome trails, we all loved it so much we have decided to do it again next week. Big thanks to everyone who rode. The boys look like they are on a Cape York Ride. This definitely looks like a Cape York ride. Is that a croc in the back ground. Choko Choko Daniel Tony Rocco |
