Quindanning night/day enduro
Report by David M.
Here is my account of the Night and Day enduro - Left the huge downpours in Perth behind to arrive at an almost dry track. That didn't stop the guy's ribbing me about there being a great river crossing and checking my headlamp to see if it had drained (see WCS report 7-8th June). In order to qualify for the next day you had to ride 2 1/2 enduro loops that night. People take it seriously with all manner of headlamp and spotlamp arrangements. At one point Choko passed me and I thought great I'll just follow the DRZ's bright lights, problem is his taillight was so bright I couldn't see a thing. After two loops I called it quits just to find everyone drinking beer in front of the fire already - suspect some didn't do all the loops. Thank god for the fire, because it was already cold and about to get a whole lot colder - record lows and frost on all the bikes. Morning arrived and the fire was still going. Orry and Dave suffered for their fatal mistake of pitching their tent too close to Roley's and ended up cold and deaf. At least the fire was still going and the bacon and eggs hot. It was Choko's first competitive event and was pretty excited at the start, the Baboons were riding the trail riding class and bypassed the special test. Everyone else rode the enduro proper (I think). With no damping in the rear shock I had to be a bit careful and it spoilt the day a bit for me, but the track was great with a good mixture of trails - my favorite type of riding. I was dead impressed with Choko, either I mixed his name up, he cut the course or posted the fastest special test of all of us. Definitely should have had ride of the day for that - but then he went all girly and claimed a sore elbow and didn't do the last loop and went home early with the baboons. What were you thinking Choko!!!! All in all a really good fun ride, not too difficult and one not to miss. Thanks to all at T&E club. |
