The day could have kicked off better. The access road into the off road area has now turned into an ideal place to practice your off road skills. Petes Commodore is lacking that extra diff and ground clearance and after an initial attack on the car park we were bogged down to the axle. After a bit of pushing and shoving, Tommy hooked up Dannys snatch rope and pulled the car out. The 8.30 start time was rapidly approaching and Pete and I were still in our Civies. Due to both of us feeling a bit crook we were going to excuse ourselves from the ride but the group demanded our presents. By around 8.50 we were on our way after the compulsory riders meeting including the dangers of dirt bike riding and how it is not a race.

Col Mac led the boys out on the main Wedge trails. He probably got a clear view of what was ahead and although the wind was blowing hard from the east, the dust was still thick and made visibility a problem. Michael picked up a front flat around the half way mark and decided to change the tube at a regroup. Not too far along the tyre was down again and he decided a new tube would be the order of the day when we stopped at the nurses hut in Wedge.

Pete and myself were still feeling sick and after a couple of attempts to fill my full face with my stomach fluids, we decided to ride to the end of the beach with the group and then turn around and come home. After the mandatory beach pic and a bit of a much around while I got some video footage, Carlo also feeling off decided, to leave the main group and head home.

We watch as the boys disappeared over the dunes and took a leisurely ride back to Lano. I ride upfront and was amazed and the number of roos jumping around. Carlo nearly took one out after it jumped between my bike and his.

One of the other boys who rode on can continue the story!!!!!

Story continued by Allen.

The ride continued toward Cervantes with a new sweep.

Walker has dibbs on SOTD with a high speed get off on the cap rock only
a stones throw from the blacktop. Walker's CRF spat him off and
continued to modify itself. Fortunately the number plate was now more
visible than when the ride started.

The long arm of the law in the shape of a ranger had a friendly chat on
the track a few Ks short of the fuel stop at Cervantes. Silver tongue
Mick soon had us back on the track.

After a snack and fuel top up at Cervantes the group took the Rangers
advice and rode the beach for the first section with Tommy handling
sweep duties. Three dolphins halted the group for a moment. A vote was
taken and the crew turned inland for the return trip to Wedge. The
leaders nearly collected a keen rider on his 650 V-Storm. Darin has a
minor problem when a sand dune swallowed him just out of
Wedge.CRFMichael seemed to have some extra speed with air in the front
tyre.

Colin played chicken with a few Landcruisers and then swapped
bikes for to see if he could use the big Burg as a landcruiser hood
ornament. The group returned to the carpark along the main track back to
Lano and dug their cars out of the dunes.

A great days riding.
