Another top Honda Adventure Rally just had! New tracks, damp to very damp tracks with a hint of dust late into the ride and the second loop was very, very fast paced! A big thanks to the T & E for another job well done. Over 300 riders and there's nothing better than the buzz in the pits when they all fire up! I will put up a few photos shortly.

A few of us shared a campfire last night: Carlo, Choko, Steve, WRRob, XRChris and we were visited by Biggles and his good lady and, also Railway Bob!. Today I caught up with TigeR, DRZTony, Spencer, Thomas as well as Staino & Georgina. It was also alleged Lethel was there? Anyone I missed put your name up on the Messageboard.

My pick of ROTD is WRRob and SOTD must go to Carlo for trying to roost Choko on the way out for the second loop and coming down in front of all - how embarrassing! If he bitches too much about that award we could give him Tool of the Week and give SOTD to Steve who lost the front wheel on a very tight goat trail corner with three angry, hungry KTMs pushing him hard. Luckily Steve went head-first and used his face to break the fall and no damage! LOL

Carlo also is up for the Hog Award as his Mazda needed to be jump started - luckily he is unemployed and has time on his hands to get that fixed and his front fork seals in time for the big WCTS next week! Does it get any better! No!

PS Choko you must come next week to fill Peter's shoes, er, I mean boots!

4. Goto 1.

Biggles Behind the Scenes Report

The Adventure Rally weekend went extremely well.
The Family fun day on the Saturday was well attended and riders had a choice of trails around the camp with varying degrees of difficulty and always with an alternative route. As with last years event the youngsters in particular wore themselves out riding lap after lap.

During one lap while looking for a photo opportunity I came across a 5 year old upside down in a ditch with his bike on top of him and crying his eyes out. There was no one to be seen anywhere and I thought it would have made a great photo.

But my compassion got the better of me and I stopped to help him as he was pinned by the handle bars. He soon settled down and some other riders turned up and agreed to ride back with him.

Picking the bike up, it would not start, open the throttle said someone wiser than me, so i did and it started at full rpm and with an automatic clutch shot straight out from between my legs and did a 360 flip, and no it didn't have any gears.

The Riding School was another success although I only took a photo of the briefing and not the training, instead I went out to ride the second loop which was still there from the day before, but you do have to check these things. It was a good mix of single track and some awesome smooth, fast flowing trails (even for me).

There was plenty of choice on the menu for dinner on Saturday and apart from the smoke from the dining room fire not wanting to go out into the cold night air, there was an air of excitement and anticipation for the Sunday.
Clear blue sky and the sound of bikes set the scene for the rest of the day. Half a dozen riders took off at first light to pre ride the course, stir up the local wildlife and shake the heavy dew off the bushes.

Then it was all hands on deck to get the registrations and scrutineering done, riders meeting and Nolan Dash out of the way so the real fun could begin.
I took off early to find a spot to take some photos just a few km along the trail. I hid my bike because it is always a distraction to the riders and sat and waited for the 300 plus riders to pass and clicked away.

It was entertaining watching riders overshoot the corner and keep on going past the big W sign only to return 10 minutes later, or the guy who saw the camera, did a wheelie and missed the turn ending up in the bush, lots of laughs.

With everyone out riding it was back to the check in to start checking in the riders from the first loop, have lunch then check in from the second loop. There were smiles all around and apart from a few flat tyres, the odd broken lever and two DRZ's who had barbed wire wrap around the back wheel in separate incidents (must have thought they were back on the farm LOL) the event was trouble free.

The final event, the raffle saw a number of riders and a couple of helpers take home some great prizes.

Then it was time to pack up, take down signs etc and head for home. Quite a few of the crew stayed through Monday to de-sign the event and make good the road - trail intersections and any other damage that may have occurred (we have a small tractor for this sort of work).

There are a lot of people who put in a great deal of work behind the scenes, and it is great to hear the positive feedback and see the tired but happy faces at the end of the day.

Next Year is the 25th Adventure Rally and the 40th year of the T&E Club, so expect something special.

I took 373 photos most of which will be on the T&E site by the end of the week, in the meantime there are a few in the gallery
