Nice clear morning at the OVT with some light rain yesterday, first noticeable fall for the year as far as I can remember but a quick dig in the garden before I left home showed only about an inch of damp. Should lower the dust factor and not too hot. Four of us with trailers and five roll up direct, chuffed with the turn out and head off to park up area.

Suit up and off we go down a flat hard packed track and onto a fast wide firebreak to settle in. Then the punishment starts with whoops, sand, more whoops and I miss my intended path and continue into an area I always have trouble finding. Keep going, more whoops, but this cuts about 1.5ks of big bumps of the course and head to the centre of the area and regroup. 4.5ks done

Suggest 3 laps of a mini track with lots of tight corners and a smooth jump for some photo opportunities. Notice 4 guys hanging back and it is suggested they may be waiting for the ice cream truck. Not the case, a newish Huskaburg ridden by Francois has failed to restart has become the first mechanical victim with what looks like a weak spark but cant hear the fuel pump for the injection kicking in. Push start attempt a few times with no joy so out with a rope and a tow back to base for further work.

Head out again and were down to seven with the Huskaburg not responding and an early retirement. Some flatter tracks, over a lime stone pile and round a small track with some nice burms before heading of to more whoops for another 1km. One loop at the top of the trail and I head out, stop and watch the other six head off in the opposite direction. Theyre not coming back, is this mutiny, did I over do the whoops? Start the chase and catch up, regroup and off to the northern part Pinjar. Blast a good stretch of limestone track to rest the arm pump out to a wide open area with some jumps and sandy burms, and of course more whoops. 21ks down and were covering my intended route much faster than I expected.

Phil to the rescue. Knows some good single trails further north and takes on the job of lead rider, thank you. Find some areas with ups and downs dug out of yellow sand and rocks poking out to keep you on the ball. Further north to an area called 4 hills if think up near a power station. Long fast tracks now between 70-90 kmph clearing out the cobwebs and up level with Yanchep at the furthest point.

Start heading back south and three more depart for home and its down to four on the blast back to the base. Glad Phil has GPS and knowledge of the area, I cant even work out which way Im facing, and he guides us back. Few more whoops along side Hopkins Rd and thats the last of the energy gone.

Back at cars by 12 noon and due to small numbers and general shagged out value the BBQ doesnt come out. A beer calls louder. 62.5 kms covered with no injuries, minimal dust and good company, it doesnt get better than this.

Sorry I am a bit vague with the names, I think I have a memory of a goldfish. By the way did I mention I think I have a memory of a goldfish.
