Pete called a ride after 12 months recovering from an ankle injury and subsequent operation. He wanted to get on the bike but wasnt keen on a full on Micks Mystery tour or a sprint down the powerlines and back. He was still limping and thought a day aboard the old bike exploring the station trails around Murchison Off Road with provide the opportunity to see if the passion to boot up was still there. Roley and Colin were in and Brownie ended up being a last minute nomination.

A big hot stew warmed up in the fire and a damper cooked in the coals against that special back drop overlooking the river supplied the magical ingredients to set the scene for a brilliant weekend. The trio were not far out of bed after having a long day, retired early to an absolutely freezing night. Excited and cold we were all up early cooking up another feast on the fire of eggs and bacon and waiting on Brownie to arrive.

All four were booted up and on the trails by 9.00 after Pete took 45 minutes to get ready Apparently he could not remember the order you have to put your gear on in and took a few attempts to complete what the rest of us knock over in 10 minutes.

A recent Midwest enduro meant we had around 25 ks of trails still marked and over, around and through some challenges that would make a T & E event proud. The first loop warmed us up and we headed back past the Homestead for a morning coffee and refuel before heading out to do some real exploring. There were no offs but ever reliable Roley got the 400 stuck fast on a couple of small mud crossings. Colin also got bogged down on the big river crossing and had to do a bit of pushing to get moving again.

Brownie and Colin shared the lead rider duties and Pete and Roley followed behind happy to take in the beautiful Midwest scenery. With around 160 ks knocked up in and what eventually took around 7 hours of riding time, back at base at 17.00, Pete was awarded ROTD for performing such a gallant effort after 12 months off the bike.

Another night around the fire, a few extra drinks and a few good stories and the group bedded down around 11.00 to a much warmer night and the sound of rain on the tin roofs at around 4.00 am on.

Mal and Bev and have continued to go from strength to strength at the station have increased the infrastructure even including a licensed bar and grill in the shearers shed. You have to see it to believe it!!!These guys host a heap of 4 x 4 events, plenty of Tag along Tours and all sorts of other events. They are also putting on the 4 X 4 show at the Burswood next week so how about popping along and supporting them.

I know the station is a few hours drive from Perth but if you want to freedom to explore and the versatility of many different types of terrain, MOA is the place to spend a few days with all the camping luxuries included.
