I was planning to take some family out to the off road vehicle up at Pinjar and run the motocross and Chinese bikes I have to see if it was time to sell them now I mostly ride with Crusties. Thought I would throw it out there for all Crusties wanting to do the same to come along. Brother in law and two daughters + boyfriend + 4m old, my workmate and Mitch, my son. Didnt think he was going to make it as he got t-boned in an 80k zone last night, taken to hospital and we didnt get home till 1.30am.

First to arrive was WRJamie, not been riding much lately and wanted to have a short ride to get back into the swing of things. Just behind him was lethal who brought his son Jack out to try some different bikes after a break off riding due to a BMX stack.

Booted up and off loaded near the Hopkins Road turn in the middle of the area. Had the area to our selves which with 5 cars and BBQ so that was good. Perfect day for it, the sun was shining but the recent rains meant no dust.

Warm up around the hard pack short track to get all parts working, bike, body and mind. Jack through his leg over the YZ 125 and the feet mostly touched the ground. A big step up from the CRF 100 he last rode but was keen to go. Set off fine and lethal jumped on DRZ to shadow him. Good to see father and son out having fun together and I hope they can convince mum a new bike is needed. Jamie was off getting into the groove and my nieces had their first riding experiences on the 150cc import. Shaky starts but where pulling up well and done the hard pack straights and had a ball. Next time we will try second gear and brakes. 4m old Amy sat backed and keep an eye on us, not phased by the noise and eyes wide open. Steve set the BBQ up, workmate Andrew and b/f Nathan also getting out and about.

With lethal and Jack satisfied and ready to go Jamie offered Jake the WR 250 to compare to the madness that is 2 stroke mx and we squeezed one more ride out of him. Grinning from ear to ear. They head off with some budgeting to do.

By this time Im wanting to do something on a bike and gear up for a slightly longer run with me to lead on the YZ, workmate Andrew on the DRZ and Jamie to sweep. Found lots of smooth sand tracks to blast along, some hard pack thrown in but as much as I tried, the big sandy whoops keep cropping up. Love it on the YZ but harder work on the enduros. Got lost trying to find the sweet tracks a few times and covered about 25k back to cars and a BBQ ready to eat. We socialise for a while and Jamie loads up.

Bush mechanic on the imports clutch internals got it going again and later a new gear lever but it takes some punishment and good cheap basher to get started. Finally bent the back brake into the frame at the end of the day so some TLC in the shed will be in order.

Kpphoto, the Karlo with the K rocks up with partner and newish 6m old. Also their friend (ex farm girl) and 6yo daughter who heads straight for a BBQ sausage with tomato sauce, what else. Karlos sporting the No 1 plate he scored for the Indi event, cant see wanting to change that in a hurry. The girls, getting back into riding, are going great and big smiles everywhere. 4 off us head out for a shortish cornerman (and woman) ride and with some good banter back at base we pack up and call it a day about 4.30.

I might have over cooked a power slide on the DRZ (well I did) and done some ribs. No one else saw it so dodged SOTD. I count two but will get the Doc to check, otherwise a fantastic day, well worth a few aches. Unofficial ROTD all the newbies giving it a go.
