Having been tied up by 401 with some building work around the house and missing an OVT classic I had decided the next opportunity came I was heading out. Thing fell into place, small job on Tuesday and chance to have a lend of a 2 stroke was a perfect day waiting to happen. The call went out and 2 put their hands up for beginners type ride. A call from Wrex, back in the saddle after a nasty break and 9 months recover and wanting to test the ankle on the shorter planned 50ks. And newbie “Vincent” who has ridden some sandy pine forest with me a few times before came along to see a different type of riding area and try his hand at some trail biking.

Good start, dropped a bike loading them on. Fell a little behind schedule and got to the meet spot just after 12. Wrex is there first and we head off to the park spot. Usual pre ride catch up as we boot up, about 26 degrees and none of the promised rain to quell the dust but still, this is my favourite place to so ready to go.

Up front I didn’t see much of the conditions but the dust faces at the first stop were well establish. Vincent I think might of set a new record for the most offs. We lost count about 10 as he struggled with the new found weight of his mount on a borrowed Drz but he will have to try harder if he thinks he getting SOTD for that. Best of all no injuries except an imprint of his shoulder from the body armour.

Wrex is following up the rear sweeping and watching the countless offs of Vincent with some bust of speed where needed. A tingle in the toes but otherwise all is good with the foot. 9 months off the bike and the relaxed pace helps him find his groove and gradually increasing in intensity as the arvo went on I could see the confidence growing – He’s Back!

Getting the hang of this leading navigating GPS thing and feel more confidant with being up front and not getting lost. Just sat back and followed the trails, creek beds and 4x4 tracks, stopping only occasionally to get the bearings. Found the way back to the car at about 35ks after some sweet single trail up and down the side of mild hills. Quick check the bike over and a top up in a hydro bag (and yes, a fag to) we set out again for another 15ks to top the day off.

All in all a very pleasant arvo with good company.

Many Thanks – Andy400
