The Geraldton Enduro season kicked off the calendar with a Pony Express up at Lynton Station which is 39 KM's from North Hampton heading towards Kalbarri. It was a very lay back affair with two main groups, the guys who like to go very fast and wanted to be timed and the others who were happy just to ride around in circles (17 K loop) with their buddies on some challenging trails. There were around 20 in each as well as a couple of quad bikes. Headlights were few and far between with the choose of weapon being a well blinged up MX bike.

After the compulsory riders meeting, all riders followed Simon (Chair of METRC) for a site lap. On return to the cars before the start there was already plenty to talk about. Guys were talking about the boggy sand and rocky trails with the odd smallish hill climb that had its own challenges and without a run up. I found plenty of carnage out there with bikes down, and lines of riders waiting to get through some tight stuff.

The first group out of the door was the "fast" guys. All looking for the hole shot to avoid the heavy dust and to look good in front of the nice size crowd. The first few K's were something you would expect at a natural terrain so gave the spectators something to look at. There wasn't too many riders returning to the track for the second loop without a well earn break.

I knocked over my first loop and decided I would call it a day. I had dropped the bike more times than I had in the last 12 months and that was without trying to ride very fast. I have been looking forward to the WCS ride and thought it smart not to risk injury on an unforgiving trail with a gotcha every 10 meters. Jamie headed out and had completed three loops before I took off and Tony looked like he was in for the full ride.

Brownie turned up for a look but is still out with the back injury. Probably not my favorite trails!!!!! but well done the club for putting on events in this type of county where it forgets to rain for months on end.
