The local enduro club put on a really lay back event and had that to the relaxed style of Murchison Off Road and we were going to be in for a great weekend. We headed up around lunch time on Saturday and unpacked the cars and made up the beds in the dongars. Kane had already spent a night up there with his family and shortly after we arrived he turned up with a nice load of wood that we steered away from his van and over to the fire pit lot overlooks the river.
Merv drove up with us and Jamie was only an hour behind. Tony and Sharky would not be up until the morning so missed out on dinner at the Dust and Diesel followed by a few more ales around the fire.
Simon the President of the club gave the normal dirt bike speech warning all of the dangers and then the good news that the loops were 55 km in length and the fast boys night get around in just over an hour. We had four hours to get out and have some fun so I figured I would only be up for 2 laps. Lap one was clocked at 1 h 28 min but that included a few offs and being lost a few times due to some marking issues. A quick drink and Kane said he was ready to head out the gate with me for the second loop.
5 k’s into the second loop I hit a nice muddy section in 4th and came down hard and smacked my helmet into the ground. Reaching down to pick the bike up I could see two set of bars. I realised I was a bit stunned and was feeling a bit unsteady. A two minute rest and I off were again. We enduo men are tough (Stupid).
2 laps completed, over three hours on the time clock and I was not going back out again. I did say on the Saturday night that the rider that knocked over the most laps would pickup ROTD. I did not see Tony when I left as he may have been out doing is third loop!!! I will need to find out.
A very tough endure with a little too much river riding but a great combination of fast flowing trails and snotty trails with gotchas all over the place. Can’t wait for the 500 km two day endure to be held at MOA later in the year.
