With a new player logging on this week, Brett2, describing his Sunday outings up the Gravity Centre and the fact he does it by himself gave me 3 good reasons to put the call out.

1 – Always wanted to go to the Gravity Centre. Would help to tie in an area for a future call.
2 – People should not ride alone!
3 – Brett likes to start later, 11am. A sleep in and a ride.

There had been mention earlier in the week of meeting Ryan at the OVT so he could park up but as he had to pull out with a crook back it was arranged to meet at the Yanchep Servo for 11am. For the ride up I put the wet weather jacket on to keep the wind at bay, mmm, nice and toasty! Thought a quick swing past the OVT just to make sure no one was waiting based on earlier plans and I found a lonely and despondent Eddie Acid Gloves. He had planned to meet up with his secret squirrel mates but none had turned up. As we do I offered out the Crusty hand of friendship and in no time we were hitting the tracks with big smiles on out faces. Found some sweet tracks together up to the meet spot at the Yanchep Servo.

On the dot Brett arrives, we fuel up to the brim and with the intros done and a quick talk about the basic corner man system it’s time to hit the tracks. Eddie is to run Sweep, and Brett to lead. I don’t ever recall covering so much ground in such a short time. Brett is off and flying and we cris-cross a maze of hard pack tracks at a blistering pace. 40ks up to the Gravity Centre, no stops, just gas, gas and more gas. My arse is numb and the gouch is tingling. Strange sensation. Time for a Latte and a Pie.

Refreshed and back in the saddle I take the lead and let the GPS help guide me into to unknown. There must be other ways through. It all started fine with some nice open hard pack. I set a long waypoint as a guide for direction and it is suggesting heading right. Detour down an overgrown 4x4 track through an area marked as a swamp. Great fun but goes nowhere but beehives. What is it with beehives just plonked out there in the bush? I know they don’t like bikes from past experience so its back to the hard pack. All the time were getting closer to the forest but found lots of dead ends. With only a few ks forward and many ks back its time to hit the sand, archenemy of Brett. With only brief let ups its mostly deep and rutted and next to fences sand munching hard slog. Each time the Xr stalls it falls. Bravo to Brett’s persistence in battling the unfamiliar foe in sand but I could see we needed to get out as soon as possible. Just in time, hardpack. Bliss! Open it up and let’s blow the cobwebs out.

Cris-cross the forest and further down to a take a quick look at the Pinjar ORV area and Brett takes the lead again to show me even more new tracks and a tar free way to the back of Wanneroo. We part ways on the edge of the burbs with 135Ks of official ride. I clocked just over 200 for the day in total and had a ball. Thanks Eddie for the sweep and Brett for the co-lead.

Ps – 3 goats and a pig? you may ask. You would know why if you had been there.
