As I stood on my front verandah looking out at the dark and stormy clouds one thought kept running through my mind, no more f%$king dust.

So with that I called my first ride, OVT 8am be there or miss out on Wrexies dustless run. Slightly nervous at the prospect, a quick call to Mick to confirm his participation and a reassurance on the route I was planning.
At least there would be two of us on my first called ride.

Over the next two days the rain and wind didn't abate one bit. My plan was coming together nicely.

At 7.30 As I came over the hill at the OVT 5 cars were seen, were they Crusties or just the Dero's left over from the Friday night session at the Pub? I rubbed my goggles and yes they all had bikes and were gearing up.

The old faithfuls were there Choko and Tony, a mate CrfAndrew, a Wog Carlo, a recovering injured rider CRFMichael, a few newbies to me Jacko and RobbyG. Well 8 on my first ride not a bad effort. As I said G'day to all Mick 450 and a newbie ride on in, it was Mark, Micks son in law riding a Gas Gas that I am was led to believe had been on previous Crusties events. Mark was on Col Macs old 2smoker, after 5 min of telling Mark he paid tooooo much, got ripped off and stood a 87.8% chance of needing a tow home (Just jokes Col pleeeeeasedont hit me) we were about to take off.

10, 10 riders it was a bonus but wait there is always one who was it to be, yes Fuel tanker Allen will take the honor of the late arrival award. A quick rundown of the days plans, Jacko put up his hand to sweep and we were off.

A couple of Ks of bitumen then into the whoops for a warm up. These were big whoops some on tight corners where you could not keep the speed up but just had to ride in and out of em. We headed straight into the Crusties old playgrounds, the stuff legends were born in, like Jaw, Michael and Mark the top 3 on the Crusties Hall of Fame. As I entered Nirvana the tears swelled up and vision was blurred, or was it. No it was pissing down and the rain on my goggles was making it hard to see.

I headed for a few hill climbs that led off of the main track. Most attempted all with a few offs and a classic from the newbie Mark who was keen to show us that when you have a steepish hill with ridges on it add too much throttle add some GAS Gas and BooooooM you have a airborne Bike Trying to do a flip with a 1 rotation in the tuck position. Choko and I held up 8/10 score cards while pissing ourselves laughing.

Headed into Yanchep for a fuel up and food stop. The heavens opened but we were under cover in time (Remember this please for later, Point 1). Mick led us east to some of his fast and flowing fire trails leading to the pines. At this point the oh shit stories came thick and fast, as thick as the rain and as fast as the trail allows.

I took over and headed north through the pines, fast logging tracks, Bulldozer tracks and the small pines to add to the fun. By this stage we were spread out a little, and soaking wet so a regroup was on the cards. Choko came up tried to ride over some small15cm in diameter tree trunks and lost the front wheel and over he went. He picked himself up and moved forward several meters. The stragglers followed when laughter erupted; as I looked back there was Mick in the dirt trying to emulate Choko's feat 1 min earlier. Yes he had done exactly the same thing. More pines and power line tracks and then rested at Wilbinga in the shining Sun. (remember point 1 well this is point 2 remember this one as well).

After Putting all spare fuel in the tanks, cleaning goggles and wringing out gloves we were off. The twisty wet trail into Wilbinga was awesome and fast until my ability went straight ahead whilst my front wheel went left. Sand everywhere and as I type this Im still finding new places it has hidden. We played in the huge sand bowl for a while, hill climbs and checked out the beach. Carlo, Mick and my self had been there 7 days earlier and were contemplating a swim, not today the beach was missing the sea was angry and the clouds were menacing.

A collective agreement was signed to keep moving south so we did. With flowing 4wd trails, sections of hard pack and softer pack, whoops and bermed corners it was awesome.
A few regroups for the stragglers, a meeting on a sand dune, and watching Choko get some major air on the CRF ( at least 10-20cm hi HAHA) jump the sand ridge it was a steady run back to the bitumen through popular 4wd tracks.

Bitumen all the way home with everyone on the reserve tap bar the mighty Drzs and Fuel tanker Allen reporting he still had of a tank. After the boys with cars had changed( whilst the sun was shining Point number 3) Carlo cracks out the esky and offers beers all round so ROTD to you mate. SOTD who do I give that to, Me for not following my bike correctly, Gas Gas Mark for the back flip with the 1 & pike or the 2 clowns for the synchronized slipping off of the log. The winner is Gas Gas Mark only because I have that on Helmet cam.

Thanks to Jacko for sweeping, Mick for his Input and direction and all the boys for being there.

Over and out

Wrex.

P.S Oh the 3 point thing, well every time we stopped for a major break I organized either shelter or the sun shinning. This is what a good trip leader is all about you know at one with the boys and nature.
Wrex out
