At a recent Crusty ride, Tony a member of the local MX brigade mentioned a Pony Express or two for the season. My ears pricked up for details and I was soon turning to Brownie looking for a partner. Without hesitation, as he had no idea what he was in for, he agreed to partner up and even ride first.

We went out on a site lap and discovered a huge array of trails. A start around a MX track and a drop into an incredibly tight goat trail followed by fast, fast sections, rocks, small hill climbs big take off zones and eventually a few ks of boggy sandy whoops that almost killed me in the site lap.

The rider meeting was then called and the good news was that the Finke desert race had been removed and the rest of the trails remained. Half the field competed in a one lap sprint around the MX track to determine the starting order. As Brownie and myself were among the few bikes with headlights on, he got smart and hung back to allow for an easy back of the field start.

The first lap felt hard but I suppose thats because you are trying so hard. I ended up knocking over 4 laps while Brownie completed 5. (We think) That was enough for me to award him the ROTD award. The only other award to pick up is the one when you over shoot a corner and flip over a wire fence. After I untangled the bike from the wire I knew it would be enough to pick up the SOTD (I was hoping that nothing worse would happen).

We got into a nice rhythm and both even managed to pick up a few places as the younger fellows were slowing down. The laps got better, the track more defined and it felt like the times were even quicker (Dreaming of course), Brownie even said that he knocked over one lap so quick he was sure I would not be ready to take over!!!!!

We had a blast, enjoyed the ride and met some local riders. They promise three more for the season and we will do our best to ride them all.
