1 broken bike & 2 lost blokes, ride report. Where to begin? Once upon a time 14 intrepid souls met at the Rock Inn, ready for adventure and hilarity- and got both! We drove up the H'way to the usual ute friendly park up spot, the usuals with a couple of new-ish blokes and one crusty virgin ( he's broken in, out, and sideways now!!) Boots on an ready bout 9am off we go, Tommy leading and Mike sweeping on the 'pig'. A few k's of open tracks and we enter Tommy's "forest of doom" we bush bashed thru burnt out forest in out and around a dry creek bed real tight gnarly stuff trying to weave our way thru to some more open tracks on the other side. Boiling bikes, horrizonal blokes and even a few tears (real men cry Rothy it's ok) Here our first wee drama unfolded with Richard "the virgin" WR cracking a plastic fitting in the cooling system. Jacko to the rescue and a lesson in track side repairs, with a bit of bush cunning and a little help from NASSA's magic tape and in 1/2 hour she's done. Well for 200m anyway- Robbie stitched poor Richard up and didn't turn the fuel back on when he refitted the tank minus one ride point for Robbie...!! Oh nearly forgot I got to ride Jacko's new steed an faark does it rev hehe! Half our later and Tommy lets us loose on a 4x4 track, bit grown over in places and heaps of smallish fallen trees over it but after the "forest of doom" looked like a freeway! Clearly everyones bikes needed a run as it was "game on" elbows shoulders and front wheels all over the place. A great track which bought all the stupid grins back. From here we made our way over to a snotty hill to see if Robbie could sign the visitors book at the summit but sadly he couldn't...! Tommy lead us over towards Mt Dale and peeled off just before the summit and sat at the top of the "downhill of dread" a super rocky, rutty washed out mountain track that is easy to get down just real hard to be on your bike- not under it, at the bottom. At this point the bike gods decided to throw a curve ball, and suddenly 14 became 12, ops! We spent about an hour going threw all the likely spots Jacko, who was sweeping as mike was riding the white knight and left Jacko with the 'pig', and Richard would be waiting -but no luck. Tommy made the call and we headed back to the cars on a fairly direct route but with some cool trails thrown in. Pounce took the blacktop, presumably to call the rescue chopper if they weren't there, or at least have a beer. A few grins missing at this stage and we were all hoping Richard an Jacko were actually at the cars, as the other options all included much drama. The last bit of the ride back was great nice an fast with clean air and no dust at all cheers tommy hehe! An eventful day that ended well with "the lost boys" back at the cars sighs of relief all round there. So we ended up doing 108.56km and even with the couple of issues Tommy strung together an awesome day, ROTD I reckon. Cheers to Mike Rothy an Jacko for sweeping and everyone else for the laughs. The $65k question is will we see Richard again, I reckon we will. A short (quick) drive back to the Rock Inn for lunch and a fews beers and for entertainment we got to see Toddy work his magic with the busty maiden...
